Deal\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/wabe.org\/post\/water-coalition-releases-dirty-dozen-list\">WABE, 14 Nov 2012<\/a>)\ntemporarily forgot that &#8220;conservative&#8221;\nincludes conserving something,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/green.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/09\/20\/americas-greenest-presidents\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3f8f25c8970c\" src=\"http:\/\/graphics8.nytimes.com\/images\/2012\/09\/20\/blogs\/prez\/prez-blog480.jpg\"\nwidth=\"360\"  \/><\/a>\nlike\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/history\/history\/hisnps\/npshistory\/teddy.htm\">\nTheodore Roosevelt and national parks<\/a>,\nor when\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgiaencyclopedia.org\/nge\/Article.jsp?id=h-649\">\nFranklin D. Roosevelt established the Okefenokee National Wildlife\nRefuge<\/a> which also\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Banks_Lake_National_Wildlife_Refuge\">\nadministers Banks Lake,<\/a> when\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/history\/origins.html\">\nRichard Nixon started the EPA,<\/a>\nand when\n<a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=ByS9UqIswqsC&amp;pg=PA1142&amp;lpg=PA1142&amp;dq=carter+%22soil+and+water+resources+conservation+act%22&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=to9d1NvBrq&amp;sig=5mV3xgIlBFzUTAphAyN7gIEtv3U&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=-uPpUKPqIo_U9AS8r4AQ&amp;ved=0CEQQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&amp;q=carter%20%22soil%20and%20water%20resources%20conservation%20act%22&amp;f=false\">\nJimmy Carter signed the Soil and Water Conservation Act.<\/a>\nIf Gov.  Deal wants to call conservation &#8220;liberal&#8221;, I&#8217;m happy to\nbe a liberal working for water for our state!\n<\/p>\n<H2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.garivers.org\/gawater\/dirtydozen.htm\">\nGeorgia Water Coalition&#8217;s Dirty Dozen<\/a><\/H2>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.garivers.org\/gawater\/dirtydozen.htm\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3f8f25cb970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d3f8f25cb970c-pi.gif\"   width=\"200\"  \/><\/a>\nlisted the biggest boondoggle\nof all as\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.garivers.org\/gawater\/pdf%20files\/SavannahRiver11.pdf\">\n#11: the nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle<\/a>\nsuck up more water from the Savannah River than all local agriculture and almost\nas much as the city of Savannah.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIf the new Plant Vogtle nukes\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/12\/15-month-delay-for-new-plant-vogtle-nukes-state-inspector-at-psc.html\">\nare ever completed,<\/a> all four will use more water than Savannah. In\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/southern-companys-three-legged-nuclear-regulatory-capture-stool.html#CWIP\">\n2009 the legislature approved and Gov. Deal signed a law<\/a>\nletting Georgia\nPower charge its customers in advance for building that boondoggle,\nto the tune of\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/georgia-power-raising-rates.html\">\nabout $1.5 billion so far!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<H2>\nLet&#8217;s not forget<\/H2>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/nuclear-reactors-near-here.html\">\nnuclear Plant Hatch<\/a> sucking up water and\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/07\/nuclear-and-coal-burning-water-solar-doesnt.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c57f519970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c57f519970c-pi.jpg\"   height=\"100\"  \/><\/a>\nheating\nthe Altamaha, while\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/01\/southern-company-has-3-biggest-co2-plants-in-us.html\">\ncoal Plant Scherer,<\/a> at Juliette near Macon, the\ncountry&#8217;s dirtiest coal plant,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/07\/nuclear-and-coal-burning-water-solar-doesnt.html\">\nsucks up water<\/a> and\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sourcewatch.org\/index.php?title=Scherer_Steam_Generating_Station#Scherer_ranked_3rd_in_terms_of_mercury_emissions\">\nemits toxic mercury<\/a>\nthat gets into\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gaepd.org\/Files_PDF\/techguide\/wpb\/TMDL\/Suwannee\/EPA_Alapaha_River_Hg_TMDL.pdf\">\nthe Alapaha River<\/a> in our watersheds here in\nsouth central Georgia.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/05\/powering-north-carolina-with-wind-sun-and-water.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b01630596f747970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b01630596f747970d-pi.jpg\"   width=\"185\"  \/><\/a>\nBetter energy solutions are available and in use in\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/05\/powering-north-carolina-with-wind-sun-and-water.html\">\nNorth Carolina<\/a>,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/net-metering-in-california-megawatts-and-jobs.html\">\nCalifornia<\/a>,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/new-solar-in-new-jersey-massachusetts-florida-wheres-georgia.html\">\nNew Jersey<\/a>, and even\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/solar-up-50-over-last-year-in-germany.html\">\nGermany<\/a>, the world leader in solar power.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/12\/industrial-park-from-green-grass-to-a-green-solar-future-decatur-county.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3f13854e970c\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8063\/8274946255_4bfca637b3_m.jpg\"\n\/><\/a>\n<H2>\nFor $1.5 billion<\/H2>\n<p>\nwe\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/georgia-power-inches-towards-more-solar.html\">\ncould have already had more solar power<\/a> online on time and on budget\nthan the new nukes will ever deliver if\nthey are ever finished.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-style:bold; font-size:120%; line-height:250%; text-align:center\">\nSolar and wind power use no water,<br> emit no\npollutants,<br> and need no coal trains from Wyoming.\n<\/p>\n<br>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/07\/will-electricity-demand-increase.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b016768ac9087970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b016768ac9087970b-pi.jpg\"   width=\"180\"  \/><\/a>\n<H2>\nWith the\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/07\/will-electricity-demand-increase.html\">\nconservation and efficiency<\/a><\/H2>\n<p>\nthat Gov. Deal refused to prioritise,\nGeorgia wouldn&#8217;t need additional power, and with solar and wind we\ncan shut down dirty water-sucking coal and nuclear plants.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/06\/clean-green-jobs-for-more-community-and-profit.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   width=\"165\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b0168ec130fdf970c-pi.jpg\"><\/a>\nI call on Gov. Deal\nto stop wasting our water on reservoir, coal,\nand nuclear boondoggles and get on with conservation, efficiency,\nand solar and wind power\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/06\/clean-green-jobs-for-more-community-and-profit.html\">\nfor jobs and energy independence for Georgia.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<H4>John S.
