\n\n<\/a>\nI applaud the activism of\n\nthe many and varied biomass opponents!<\/a>\nLet me repeat my prediction: the biomass plant will never be built.\nThat’s no reason to stop doing what you’re doing.\nYou know opposition is having an effect when\n\nVLCIA repeatedly denies it.<\/a>\n

\nYou might be surprised how many other people think this plant will\nnever be built.\nAshley Paulk told me\n\n\na year ago that it would never get financing.\nHe repeated that prediction to me Monday.\nI told him I remembered that, but I hadn’t published it because\nhe hadn’t said it in public.\nHe told me he had since said it on the radio, so I’m publishing it now.\nHe elaborated Monday in saying that with\n\nno buyer for the electricity,<\/a>\nthere’s no business case for financing the biomass plant.\n

\n\n<\/a>\nThis is the man whose company would have to provide most of\nthe private financing:\n\nSonny Murphy, Chairman of Sterling Planet, the parent company of Wiregrass Solar, LLC.<\/a>\nI have only ever met him once, but I have read quite a bit about his\nbusiness history, and he doesn’t strike me as the sort of businessman who\nwould throw away tens of millions of dollars with no chance of return.\n

\nDespite VLCIA’s rear-guard actions\nsuch as VDT is objecting to,<\/a>\nin the Industrial Authority’s own most recent board meeting\n\nthe only people I heard mention biomass were protesters outside\nand citizens wishing to be heard inside.<\/a>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nIt could be next week or next year, but when the biomass plant\nis cancelled, what will happen?\nWill the same spirit of activism carry over into for example\n\nopposing private prisons<\/a>?\n

\nEven better,\n\nwill it spread into supporting<\/a>\n<\/a>\nsolar energy, prison rehabilitation, local and organic agriculture, reforestation,\neducation,\nknowledge-based jobs,\nand other issues which affect Valdosta and Lowndes County and for which\nwe have the resources and opportunity?\n

\nThe community is waking up to its own concerns and its own power of participation.\nWhat will it do next?\n
