The planning meeting will\r\nbegin on Thursday, February 25 at 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. and resume\r\nFriday, February 26 at 8:30 a.m. wrapping up at 12:00 noon.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe purpose of the annual planning meeting is<!--more-->\r\n\r\n to discuss vision,\r\ngoals, and direction for the future of Lowndes County. Agenda items\r\nto be discussed include facility projects (SPLOST &amp; non-SPLOST),\r\nutilities, fire\/rescue service expansion, road improvement projects,\r\nzoning, housing initiatives, litter control, economic development\r\nopportunities and more. The items being presented have been selected\r\nby the commissioners and will be prioritized during their\r\ndiscussion.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe annual planning meeting is open to citizens. In addition, staff\r\nwill release a synopsis of discussions that will be posted on the\r\ncounty&#8217;s website, www.lowndescounty.com. Any official actions on\r\nitems will take place at a future public meeting of the Board of\r\nCommissioners.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nWhile Lowndes County has not held an annual planning meeting out of\r\ntown for the past several years, the intent is to provide an\r\nenvironment in which elected officials can come together without\r\ndistraction to strategically address community needs and set goals\r\nfor the next year. The timing of the annual planning meeting is in\r\naccordance with the beginning of the budget process each year.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nDaily updates will be posted online,\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\">\r\nwww.lowndescounty.com<\/a>. In\r\nresponse to COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be observed.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nCounty retreats used to be on Jekyll back when Rod Casey was Chairman,\r\nin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/news\/local_news\/growth-discussed-at-retreat\/article_7378f891-778b-549d-ba8f-248884004821.html\">2005<\/a>\r\nand\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/news\/local_news\/county-tackling-many-topics-at-retreat\/article_35b2669e-d424-556c-8355-fb6cb7c6b4d0.html\">2008<\/a>,\r\nfor example.\r\nThe 2008 retreat included &ldquo;and other solid waste management improvements.&rdquo;\r\nSo that&#8217;s where they dreamed up the plan of privatizing waste collection with a max bid so low nobody did.\r\n<p>\r\nThey didn&#8217;t post videos back then, either.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-style:italic\">Investigative reporting costs money, for open records requests, copying, web hosting, gasoline, and cameras, and with sufficient funds we can pay students to do further research.
