Twenty-nine of the nation\u2019s 104 reactors were offline.\n<p>\nSouthern Co. (SO)\u2019s 1,109-megawatt Vogtle 1 reactor automatically\ntripped offline yesterday at 5:34 p.m. when it was at full power. The\ncause is under investigation, the NRC said.\n<\/blockquote>\nThe shutdown was ironically two days after\n<a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.augusta.com\/latest-news\/2011-04-14\/nrc-plans-tuesday-vogtle-meeting?v=1302776620\">\nan NRC public meeting &#8220;to discuss Plant Vogtle\u2019s annual safety evaluation and assessment.&#8221;<\/a>\n<p>\nThat would be the same location where,\naccording to\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgiacountry.com\/blogspot\/?p=25\">\nTice Brashear back in 18 March 2009<\/a>:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nPlant Vogtle has passed most of its state regulatory hurdles needed\nto begin construction of two new reactors in Burke County, Georgia.\nThe state utility regulators have already passed their blessing on the\nproject.   In addition, the Georgia Public Service Commission has approved\nan increase in of 9% in billing to current Georgia Power customers.\n<\/blockquote>\n<P>\nWhat&#8217;s the other reactor offline?\nThat&#8217;s two other ones; three total, according to Bloomberg:\n<blockquote>\nProgress Energy Inc. (PGN) started the 937-megawatt Brunswick 2 unit in\nNorth Carolina after shutting it April 19. It is operating at 22 percent\nof capacity. The 938-megawatt Brunswick 1 is operating at full power at\nthe Cape Fear site 130 miles south of Raleigh.\n<p>\nConstellation Nuclear Energy Group LLC, a joint venture of Constellation\nEnergy Group Inc. (CEG) and Electricite de France SA, boosted output at\nits 621-megawatt Nine Mile Point Unit 1 to full power from 34 percent\nof capacity yesterday.\n<p>\nThe reactor is about 6 miles northeast of Oswego, New York, and was shut\nfor refueling on March 21.\n<\/blockquote>\nUnscheduled shutdowns, and costs the people more to build.\nRemind me what the big advantage is of nuclear over solar or wind?\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Nuclear really more reliable than wind or solar?
