\r\nTwo new GLPC members, half a million dollars to Motorola for some unexplained acronym,\r\nand the\r\n\r\nVal Del Road rezoning<\/a>, which\r\nbreezed through the preceding Planning Commission meeting<\/a> with no opposition,\r\nis on\r\nthe agenda<\/a>\r\nfor the Work Session Monday morning and the voting session Tuesday evening of the Lowndes County Commission.\r\n

\r\nThe\r\nGreater Lowndes Planning Commission<\/a> will have\r\n\r\ntwo new members soon<\/a>:\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\nThe appointment of Mr. Ed Hightower to the Greater Lowndes Planning\r\nCommission (GLPC) expired on September 9, 2019 and the appointment of Mr. Jody Hall (resigned) will expire\r\nOctober 13, 2019. Keith Jackson, Bryan Inman, James Warren, Sharah Denton, Paul Alvarado, and Vicky Biles,\r\nhave all expressed interest in being appointed to the GLPC.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nUncharacteristically, the agenda sheet does not say whether the incumbent Ed Hightower wants to be reappointed, although we can guess, that since his name is not among those who have expressed interest, that he does not.\r\nAs usual, there is no detail as to who those people are.\r\nPaul Alvarado at least we remember was two months ago\r\nnot reappointed to ZBOA<\/a>.\r\nMaybe, in response to the LAKE open records request,\r\nthe county will return the board packet before the Commission votes Tuesday evening.\r\n

\r\nHalf a million dollars a year\r\nMotorola SUAII (Evergreen)<\/a>, whatever that is.\r\nThe\r\n\r\nagenda sheet<\/a> says:\r\n

\r\n

\r\nThe Motorola System Upgrade Agreement, or SUAII, will allow Lowndes County\r\nto maintain a current system by providing system upgrades every two years. Subscriber maintenance and\r\ninfrastructure maintenance is also covered under the SUAII agreement, along with 24\/7 support. Lowndes\r\nCounty will pay Motorola a monthly amount of $40,776.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThat’s $489,312.00\/year (or $489,310.00, as the sheet says under “BUDGET IMPACT”).\r\n

\r\nBut upgrade of what?\r\nThe opaque wording was identical two years ago<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nGlynn County, GA did this in January 2018<\/a>,\r\nfor $4,003.30\/month or $48,039.60\/year\r\nand was more forthcoming:\r\n

\r\n

\r\nMotorola, through Hasty Communications East, Inc., provides infrastructure repair\/support\r\nservices to the Joint Public safety Communications Department (the \u201cJPSCD\u201d) for the Public Safety\r\nCommunications System (the \u201cRadio System\u201d). The System Upgrade Agreement (the SUAII) is a\r\nseparate contract from the existing maintenance contract because of the necessity for specific\r\nlanguage regarding equipment and software upgrades\/replacements that are not used in\r\nmaintenance contracts, as well as, the specific two-year time frame that is not applicable to the\r\nmaintenance contract.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nSo it’s for public safety radio communications.\r\n

\r\nDothan, Alabama, did this back in November, 2016,<\/a>\r\nfor $3,988.04\/month or $47,856.48\/year,\r\nand included an itemized list from Motorola of what the money pays for.\r\n

\r\nWhy does Lowndes County, Georgia, which pays Motorola ten times as much as Glynn County, GA, or Dothan, AL,\r\nnot tell us what the money is for?\r\n

\r\nAnd the Ivandale Circle abandonment teed up last time<\/a>\r\nhas a Public Hearing<\/a> this time.\r\n
