\r\nFour bids were received for \r\nLAS and Pump Station Improvements<\/a>\r\nwith the high bid at $3.3 million, and the low at $2.5 million,\r\nbut apparently the county negotiated the low bidder,\r\nDoyle Hancock & Sons, down to\r\n$1,520,858.00<\/a>.\r\nThis is “for improvements to the LAS [Land Application Site, aka wastewater spray field], Bevel Creek, Francis Lake, and Coleman Road lift stations.”\r\nThe LAS is between Grassy Pond and Pike Pond, a few thousand feet from the GA-FL line, in the Withlacoochee River watershed.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Hickory Grove Road, Mud Swamp Creek, Grand Bay Creek<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nOne bid of\r\n\r\n$2,613,684.00 from Southern Concrete Construction Co. Albany, Georgia<\/a>\r\nwas received for\r\nReplacement of Hickory Grove Road Bridges<\/a>\r\nover Mud Swamp Creek and Grand Bay Creek,\r\njust above where they meet to form the Alapahoochee River\r\n(which flows into the Alapaha River, then the Suwannee River, to the Gulf).\r\n

\r\nThe\r\nHazard Mitigation Grant Program Applications<\/a>\r\nare for\r\n\r\n“nursing homes for the purpose of installing\r\ntransfer switches and\/or emergency backup generators on their facilities….\r\nBecause all five of the long\r\nterm care facilities in Lowndes County are for profit businesses, operated by Pruitt Health Corporation, in\r\norder for them to receive funding to install generators at each of their facilities to power the entire facility in\r\nthe event of a power failure, Lowndes County must serve as the applicant agent.”<\/a>\r\nSo that’s a $1,176,015.51 GEMA grant with a 25% or $392,005.17 match from Pruitt Health Care Corp.\r\n

\r\nAfter previously saying the county did not pay for road rights of way any more,\r\nthe county is paying\r\n\r\n$1,489 to a property owner on Howell Lane<\/a>.\r\nPresumably that’s related to the\r\nPaving on Howell Lane and a Portion of Lester Road<\/a>,\r\nfor which\r\n\r\nScruggs had the low bid of $849,354.00<\/a>, only 35,154.95 or 4% lower than Reames,\r\nand much lower than Southland Contractors.\r\nGDOT will provide $750,000.00 in LMIG, with the rest from SPLOST.\r\n

\r\nAlso, they’re going to reappoint\r\n\r\nRandall Crews<\/a>\r\nto the\r\nLowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals<\/a>.\r\n
