\r\nThe longest single item in the one January Valdosta City Council meeting was unscheduled:\r\nthe \r\n\r\nsurprise statewide Georgia Parks and Rec Volunteer Award<\/a>\r\nand\r\n\r\nCouncil Andy Gibbs responding with thanks<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe \r\nmost contentious rezoning was\r\n\r\n4.b. CU-2018-13 Scintilla Charter Academy Conditional Use Permit<\/a>,\r\nto add a Middle School to an Elementary School.\r\n

\r\nThe most-discussed general topic on the agenda was water, with\r\nUtility Director Darryl Muse speaking about\r\n\r\n5.b. Bids for 10 emergency standby generators for Utilities<\/a>,\r\n\r\n5.c. Bids for water treatment chemicals for Utilities<\/a>,\r\nand\r\n\r\n6.b. Purchase SCADA system for Lift Stations and Water Treatment Plants<\/a>,\r\nwith frequent questions from Council members.\r\nThey did bring up the\r\nrecent major spill at the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nIn Citizens to Be Heard,\r\nI\r\n\r\ntold them what Valdosta Utilities hadn’t<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAlso in CTBH,\r\nJohn Robinson spoke about how\r\n\r\nsmall businesses need to thrive<\/a>\r\nand another speaker said\r\n\r\nhe had been attacked physically by a local business man<\/a>.\r\nRenaming Forrest Street was discussed by\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nProf. Mark George<\/a>,\r\nby\r\n\r\nGeorge Boston Rhynes<\/a>,\r\nand by\r\n\r\na Pastor Jasper whose last name I didn’t get<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAnd they made one appointment each to\r\n\r\nKLVB<\/a>,\r\nthe\r\n\r\nValdosta Tree Commission<\/a>,\r\nand the\r\n\r\nValdosta-Lowndes Development Authority<\/a>.\r\n
