\r\nDue to Monday being Martin Luther King Jr. Day,\r\nboth the Work Session and the Regular Session will be on Tuesday, January 22, 2019,\r\nat 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.\r\nLast time they approved paying for right of way on Simpson Road<\/a>.\r\nThis time they’re approving\r\nPaving on Parker Road and Simpson Road<\/a>.\r\nWhy does Simpson Road get this exception to their decade-long custom of never paying for road right of way?\r\nWill Scruggs or Reames get the $2 million-plus contract for paving?\r\n(Hint: Reames is the low bidder<\/a>.)\r\n

\r\n\r\nSimpson Road in Lowndes County Tax Assessor Maps<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nMeanwhile, the county apparently borrowed money for paving,\r\nand is tinkering the\r\nSpecial Assessment Rate for 2019<\/a>\r\nfrom 6.5% to 7.5%<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nHm, the county “currently receives $32,770 annually”<\/a>\r\n\r\n\r\nas part of an agreement\r\nwith the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) for “FY2018 EMPG funding, and reporting and other requirements”.\r\nMaybe the county could use some of that funding to\r\norganize testing water wells for the firefighting chemicals (PFAS) spilled by Moody AFB<\/a>.\r\nSee\r\nFY 2018 Performance Partnership Agreement and EMPG Application<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n\r\nThe county wants<\/a> to spend $73,000 to “jack and bore under Highway 84 west at James Road to extend the water main”<\/a>\r\nto reach three property owners\r\non the south side of US 84.\r\n“After discussions with the three owners and the Utilities Department, an agreement was drawn up to split the cost evenly between the four parties.”\r\nThe three property owners are never named, nor does the county say how far\r\nsouth of Highway 84.\r\nImmediately south there are three about 1.5 acre lots.\r\nA bit farther across the railroad tracks there are much bigger parcels\r\nowned by Loch-Winn Farms, Langdale Capital Assets, and Griffin LLC.\r\n

\r\nNo agenda is complete without a road abandonment, this time for\r\nMcLeod Road<\/a> between\r\n\r\nOld Lake Park Road and Hickory Grove Road North<\/a>, depicted in “the attached drawing”, which as usual was not attached to the publicly-visible agenda.\r\nPlus taking in roads\r\n\r\nin Livingston Subdivision Phase II<\/a> off of\r\n\r\nBemiss Knights Academy Road<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAnd there’s the annual\r\nSpeed Zone Ordinance<\/a> update.\r\nThey say they’re changing speed limits on Lake Park Bellville Road<\/a>,\r\nbut they don’t say if they’re changing speed limits on any other roads,\r\nand, as usual, they didn’t publish the list, so you don’t know whether\r\nthey’re changing the speed limit on your road.\r\n
