Tim Golden used Yogi Berra to illustrate that solar power\nis no longer just a theory: it&#8217;s now implemented in practice.\n<blockquote>\nYogi said, and I quote:\n<blockquote>\nIn theory, there&#8217;s no difference between theory and practice,\nbut in practice, there is.\n<\/blockquote>\n&#8230;\n<p>\nI thought about that quote because solar power at one time was a theory,\nand now it&#8217;s in practice.\n<\/blockquote>\nA very good point.\n<p>\n(This is also where\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/05\/its-not-over-until-its-over.html\">\nSonny Murphy got the idea to quote Yogi Berra.<\/a>)\n<p>\nSen. Golden mentioned that he and Sonny Murphy grew up with Gov. Nathan Deal.\n<p>\nHe said he met Pete Marte of Hannah Solar at the governor&#8217;s office\nthe previous day, at the signing of HB 346, which includes solar tax credits.\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/05\/georgia-clean-energy-tax-credits-yes-they-are-available.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/archive\/9\/97\/20100708154731%21GEFA_color.jpg\/120px-GEFA_color.jpg\"><\/a>\nThat&#8217;s the bill that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/05\/georgia-clean-energy-tax-credits-yes-they-are-available.html\">\nWes Hudson said<\/a>\n&#8220;extends the renewable energy tax credit to the year ending Dec. 31,\n2014, and for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 it newly expands the total\nstatewide credit amount from $2.5 million to $5 million in each of the\nyears 2012-2014.&#8221;\n<p>\nSen. Golden once again said we&#8217;d gone from theory to practice.\n<p>\nHe lauded Jimmy Carter for putting solar panels on the White House\n\n<!--more-->\nand &#8220;they have since come down.&#8221;\n(He neglected to mention who took them down, namely Ronald Reagan.\nI told Sen. Golden later that if he kept complimenting Jimmy Carter,\npeople might think he&#8217;s a Democrat, which, of course, he was until recently.)\nAnyway, Sen. Golden claimed solar power was a theory back then but is\nin practice now.\n<p>\nHe complimented Ted Turner as an entrepeneur for the Atlanta Braves\nand 24 hour news.\n<blockquote>\nTed Turner is a very significant player.\nHe believes in solar power.\nWhere his current headquarters is located\nhe&#8217;s going to have solar power built on the parking lot,\nand all the energy for that building is going to come from solar power.\n<\/blockquote>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/07\/solar-parking-lots.html\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   width=\"141\" height=\"83\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.physorg.com\/newman\/gfx\/news\/1-UCSDHopkinsPV_cap.jpg\"><\/a>\nOffice buildings mostly use energy during the day, when the sun shines.\nPut\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/07\/solar-parking-lots.html\">\nsolar panels on their parking lots<\/a>\nand you get shade for the cars and power for their buildings.\n<p>\nSen. Golden then cited Data Technologies for solar panel use,\nwhich kicks in during peak times.\n<blockquote>\nThink about that for a minute.\nIf we can have solar power kick in at peak times,\nwhat that does for energy conservation.\nThis is a very significant day!\n<\/blockquote>\nIn other words, <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/why-solar-cuts-it-better-than-any-other-energy-source.html\">baseload is irrelevant.<\/a>\n<p>\nSen.
