\n\n<\/a>\n\n<\/a>\nThe Industrial Authority has a spiffy new website under a new domain,\n\nbuildlowndes.com<\/a>,\nand with their new logo, formerly only on their\n\nfacebook page<\/a>.\nTheir\n\nmeeting agenda for tonight<\/a>, however,\nis the same old recycled content-free placeholder.\n<\/p>\n

\nI sure don’t miss the old hexagon menu, the new menu is up top and\nusable before they waste a bunch of space with stock photos.\nThe \nOur Team<\/a>\npage even links to the Linkedin profiles of\n\nAndrea Schruijer<\/a>\nand\n\nMeghan Duke<\/a>.\nWhile Allan Ricketts does have a Linkedin profile,\nit’s not very fleshed out and they don’t link to it.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe \nRecent Investments<\/a>\npage is interesting, although it would be more so if\n\n\nthe names\nof companies linked to something, such as number of jobs,\nwhat they do, which are local and which are imports, etc.\nFor example, I think all three of the\n“Value Added Agriculture & Food Processing”\ncompanies, Sunset Farms, South Georgia Pecan, and CJB Industries,\nare companies that began here.\nThey have a couple of\n\nTestimonials<\/a>\non another page; they could link to those, at least.\nOr can they?\nDo they have to go through their fancy marketing consultant\nto do that, or do they know how to manage their own website?\nAnd over here under\nLeading Employers<\/a>\nthey have company logos and a blurb on each for some of the same companies,\nplus others such as Langdale, ADM, and Fresh Beginnings.\n\n<\/a>\nAnd of course what they really seem to think they’re selling,\njudging by what they talk about most in their meetings,\n\ntheir business parks.<\/a>\nAfter all, their new tagline is the retro all-caps 19th century:\n<\/p>\n

\n“BUILDING A GROUND BREAKING COMMUNITY.”\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nThere’s a link to\nvaldostalowndesprospector.com<\/a>,\nwhich confusingly doesn’t say that when you get there; it just has\nthe same Valdosta Lowndes Industrial Authority logo as the main site.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe \nlocal government page<\/a> is confused, with\nits link to\n“City & County Commission”<\/a>.\nPretending they’re a merged government, are we?\nThat doesn’t really help industrial development:\nDublin and Laurens County are not merged,\nand they just keep bringing in the business,\nsuch as\n\nMAGE SOLAR<\/a>,\n\ncar part manufacturer\nErdrich<\/a>,\nand those solar street lights.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe\n\nTarget Industry Clusters<\/a>\npage lists\nAdvance[d] Manufacturing,\nValue Added Agriculture & Food Processing,\nGreen Technology & Alternative Energy,\nand\nWarehousing & Distribution.\nAll good choices, although maybe one of\n\nAugusta-Richmond County<\/a>‘s advantages that let it be second in the\ncountry in high tech job growth was picking a term they could spell.\nIt’s good to see VLCIA is for agriculture, unlike\n\nthe Chamber<\/a>.\nThe Industrial Authority’s take is getting close to\n\nWiregrass Alley.<\/a>\nI wonder why “Alternative” energy\ninstead of renewable energy, and the one-line writeup says nothing\nabout solar or wind, and could still include biomass.\nBut at least it’s on the list, and there’s nothing\nabout wanting a private prison.\n<\/p>\n

\nAnyway, I think the website is a big improvement,\nalthough there’s still room for further improvement.\nHere’s\n\nthe agenda<\/a> for tonight’s meeting,\nchanged only in the dates of this meeting, of the previous meeting minutes\n(which are still not available to the public),\nand of the financial statements.\n<\/p>\n
