\n\n<\/a>\nLegendary rock guitarist Carlos Santana, in town to be honored for a\n“Beacon of Change” award at Sunday\u2019s MLB Civil Rights Game at\nTurner Field, called the state’s new immigration law “anti-American.”\n

\nSantana took his turn at the podium on the field in a pre-game ceremony\nbefore the Braves-Phillies game to criticize the immigration bill just\nsigned into law by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal Friday.\n

\n“I represent the human race,” the Mexican-born Carlos Santana\nsaid. “The people of Arizona, the people of Atlanta, Georgia, you\nshould be ashamed of yourselves.”\n

\nThe Georgia immigration law, HB 87, cracks down on illegal immigration\nby increasing enforcement powers and requiring many employers to check\nthe immigration status of new hires.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd this is just the start of\n\nwhat’s going to happen to Georgia as long as that law is in effect.<\/a>\n

\nBut what do you really think, Carlos?\n\n\n

\n“This is about fear, that people are going to steal my job,” Santana\nsaid of the law. “No we ain\u2019t. You don\u2019t clean toilets and clean\nsheets, stop shucking and jiving.”\n

\nSantana referenced his 1960s rock-n-roll background and said he is an\nartist unafraid to speak out.\n

\n“It’s an anti-American law. It’s a cruel law, actually,” Santana\nsaid. “If you all remember what it was like here with Martin Luther\nKing and the dogs and the hoses, it\u2019s the same thing, only it’s high\ntech. So let’s change it.\u201d\n<\/blockquote>\nImmigrants won’t steal your jobs, unless they’re turned into prisoners\nin private prisons and hired out at wages nobody can compete with.\n
