Here at the website you will find educational materials\n\u2014 from an areligious as well as Christian perspective \u2014 as to why the\nDrug War and drug prohibition exacerbates every ill the prohibitionists\ndecry, what can be done about it, and what you can do about it. (Hint:\nLegalize and Regulate.)\n<\/blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/christiansagainstprohibition.org\/About\">\nCAP has<\/a>\na three-point mission statement:\n<ol>\n<li>\nHeal the Sick\n<li>\nFree the Captives\n<li>\nShine Light in the Dark\n<li>\nDeal with Dissent\n<\/ol>\nThey explain each point in practical and biblical terms.\n<p>\nAnd they spell out their position on the subject topic,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/christiansagainstprohibition.org\/The_Evils_of_For-Profit_Private_Prisons\">\nThe Evils of For-Profit, &#8220;Private,&#8221; Prisons<\/a>:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nSo here we are.  According to the Pew Center for the States, in 2007\nthe United States, which has 5% of the world\u2019s population, has 25%\nof the world\u2019s prisoners.  This equates to 1 prisoner out of 31 people\nin the US.<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/5744432557\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2509\/5744432557_2d8b57c7d9_o.png\"><\/a>\n<p>Some states are drastically higher.  <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.CNN.com\/2009\/CRIME\/03\/02\/record.prison.population\/index.html\"\ntitle=\"2007, 7.3 Million people in prison.\">According to a CNN\narticle<\/a>, Georgia has 1 in 13 adults in the states \u201ccorrections\u201d\nsystem.<\/p>\n<p>So one could ask, \u201dWasn\u2019t it foreseeable that prisons would be\nlike every other \u2018private\u2019 business that exists to earn a profit? And\nto seek to earn more and more profits?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I am certain, not only has a for-profit prison system\nbeen the inspiration for increasingly tough laws, but\nit has also caused corruption and conflict of interest.  <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.CNN.com\/2009\/CRIME\/02\/23\/pennsylvania.corrupt.judges\/index.html\"\ntitle=\"Pennsylvania rocked by &#039;jailing kids for cash&#039;\nscandal.\">This CNN article<\/a> describes one such case, I am\nsure there are others we don\u2019t know about yet. (Yahoo link: <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090211\/ap_on_re_us\/courthouse_kickbacks\"\ntitle=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090211\/ap_on_re_us\/courthouse_kickbacks\">\nhttp:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090211\/ap_on_re_us\/courthouse_kickbacks<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\nThat&#8217;s right,\naccording to CNN&#8217;s 2 March 2009 story\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/CRIME\/03\/02\/record.prison.population\/index.html\">\nStudy: 7.3 million in U.S. prison system in &#8217;07<\/a>,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewcenteronthestates.org\/report_detail.aspx?id=49382\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.pewcenteronthestates.org\/_assets\/images\/library\/pcs-logo.gif\"><\/a>\nwhich draws from the Pew Center on the States report\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewcenteronthestates.org\/report_detail.aspx?id=49382\">\nOne in 31<\/a>,\n<blockquote>\nGeorgia tops the nation, with 1 in 13 adults in the state&#8217;s corrections system\n<\/blockquote>\nGeorgia number one in locking people up!\n<p>\nWhile Georgia&#8217;s schools fail and the legislature defunds them.\n<p>\nAnd now the state wants to hand over all that tax money to private companies\nfor their private profit by locking people up instead of educating people.\nPrivate profit that gives incentive to private prison companies to keep\nlocking up more people at public tax expense.\n<p>\nThat doesn&#8217;t seem right to CAP.\nDoes it seem right to you?\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Another Sunday; another group of religious people against private prisons; a group that points out Georgia is already number one in locking people up.
