\n\n<\/a>\nAs promised at Tuesday\u2019s Lowndes County Board of Commissioners\nmeeting, the Lowndes County Animal Shelter (LCAS) allowed the public\nthe opportunity Wednesday afternoon to get a behind-the-scenes look at\nthe facility that has recently come under fire.\n

\nEmployees, both past and present, have accused several shelter employees\nof inhumane treatment of animals, the mishandling of tranquilizers and\nillegal operating procedures.\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nAt least two of the speakers at the commission earlier in the day\ntook the tour:\n\nJessica Bryan Hughes<\/a>\nand\n\nJudy Havercamp<\/a>.\n

\nOne of the visitors summed it up:\n\n\n

\n\n<\/a>\n\u201cI think that there\u2019s a lot of questions that need to be cleared\nup,\u201d said Haverkamp. \u201cThe commissioners need to clean house and\ndo their job. As far as how they keep this place, I\u2019ve never heard\nanything bad, that part\u2019s good. I\u2019m just curious about the timing\nof this walkthrough. It seems kind of strange. The allegations really\nhave nothing to do with the shelter itself, but more to do with the\noperators. Taxpayers pay these salaries and we have a right to know\nwhat\u2019s going on here.\u201d\n<\/blockquote>\n
