\r\nValdosta has a very light\r\n\r\nagenda<\/a> Thursday,\r\nwith a couple of bids and the same\r\n\r\nresolution<\/a> in support of Georgia HR 158<\/a> to stop diversion of state fees\r\nthat has already been passed by\r\nLanier County<\/a> 2018-01-08,\r\nby the City of Adel<\/a> 2018-01-16,\r\nby Atkinson County<\/a> 2018-01-18,\r\nand is on the agenda for Lowndes County<\/a> 5:30 PM tonight 2018-01-23\r\nand on the agenda for Hahira 6PM next Thursday 2018-02-01.\r\n

\r\nIf you can attend one of these meetings and thank these elected officials\r\nfor doing the right thing, I’m sure they would appreciate it.\r\n

\r\nValdosta City Council Tim Carroll talked about this resolution\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nat the previous Valdosta City Council meeting<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n

\r\nOf particular concern is that when you think about our stormwater\r\ndrainage ditches and branches, and creeks, our rivers, there are\r\nfees that are charged that are supposed to be used to protect those,\r\nand as best as we can tell they are not all being used for that\r\npurpose.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nFor example, the tire amnesty that\r\nLowndes County Public Works Director Robin Cumbus\r\nsaid yesterday morning was very succcessful<\/a>\r\n(5,000 tires collected, many mosquitos left without breeding areas)\r\ncame from\r\na GA-EPD grant she discussed May 8, 2017<\/a>,\r\nand,\r\nif I’m not mistaken, \r\nthat grant comes from the\r\nGeorgia\r\nScrap Tire Abatement Reimbursement Program<\/a>,\r\nwhich is funded by the\r\nSolid Waste Trust Fund<\/a>,\r\nfrom which\r\n\r\nupwards of $50 million has been diverted<\/a> to other purposes,\r\nas mentioned in a WHEREAS in the\r\nresolution<\/a>\r\non these local agendas.\r\n
