{"id":1935,"date":"2011-06-07T15:53:44","date_gmt":"2011-06-07T19:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/06\/sounds-like-trouble-is-brewing-down-i-75-jim-galloway.html"},"modified":"2011-06-07T15:53:44","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T19:53:44","slug":"sounds-like-trouble-is-brewing-down-i-75-jim-galloway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/06\/sounds-like-trouble-is-brewing-down-i-75-jim-galloway.html","title":{"rendered":"Sounds like trouble is brewing down I-75. &mdash;Jim Galloway"},"content":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s even more secretive than the\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/private-prisons-dont-save-much-money-nytimes.html\">\nIndustrial Authority?<\/a>\nValdosta State Prison!\n<p>\nThe\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ajc.com\/political-insider-jim-galloway\/2011\/06\/07\/state-blocks-info-on-\u2018violent-incidents\u2019-at-valdosta-state-prison\/\">\nAJC has noticed<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nSounds like trouble is brewing down I-75. &mdash;Jim Galloway\n<\/blockquote>\nthat the VDT\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/top-local-news\/x1697312498\/Open-Records-request-denied\">\nis getting serious about open records requests:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nThe Valdosta Daily Times\u2019 Open Records request concerning violent incidents in the Valdosta State Prison was denied Monday.\n<p>\nThe Department of Corrections (DOC) denied all requests in the Times\u2019\nOpen Records filing, stating that, under Georgia law, the documents do\nnot have to be released.\n<p>\nAfter receiving phone calls from concerned individuals who have knowledge\nof recent violent prison attacks, the Times submitted the Open Records\nrequest to Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens.\n<\/blockquote>\nKay Harris wrote that in the VDT today.\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.kairosofgeorgia.org\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.kairosofgeorgia.org\/VSP.jpg\"><\/a>\nCuriously,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcor.state.ga.us\/GDC\/FacilityMap\/html\/valdosta_state_prison.html\">\nthe state doesn&#8217;t even<\/a>\nprovide a picture of the prison.\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s enough to make you wonder what they have to hide.\n<p>\nApparently the VDT wonders:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nThe Times is disputing the attorney\u2019s statement and refiling the\nrequest, as although the newspaper did request specific names and incident\ndates, the Open Records request also asked for \u201cinformation concerning\ninjuries sustained by inmates and guards at another\u2019s hands at the\nprison since January 2009.\u201d\n<p>\nThe state could have fulfilled this portion of the request by redacting\nnames, which would have protected the identities and medical files of\nthe individuals.\n<p>\nThe Times is also disputing Pham\u2019s statement that attacks on prison\nofficials are deemed protected as security concerns.\n<\/blockquote>\nGo VDT!\n<p>\nGiven that sort of track record from a state prison,\nwe don&#8217;t need the Industrial Authority to bring us a\n<a href=\"\/blog\/category\/cca\">\nprivate prison<\/a>\nthat would\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/private-prisons-dont-save-much-money-nytimes.html\">\nprobably cost us even more.<\/a>\nSpend those tax dollars on education instead.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s even more secretive than the Industrial Authority?
