It wasn&#8217;t quite open at the time.\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/road-closings-lowndes-county-georgia-.html\">Many other bridges and roads were closed.<\/a>\r\n<p>\r\nMakes you wonder why there is so much flooding that bridges have to be rebuilt higher. Could it be <a href=\"\/blog\/2009\/09\/where-and-why-flooding-happens.html\">as the AJC noted<\/a>:\r\n<blockquote>\r\n&#8220;&#8230;development and sprawl, he said: destruction of trees, paving of roads and parking lots, addition of new homes to older areas and landscaping all change the way water drains \u2014 or doesn\u2019t drain. &#8221;\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nIn Lowndes County there was <a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/05\/impervious-cover-increase-lowndes-county.html\">68% increase in impervious cover in Lowndes County<\/a> from 1991 to 2005.\r\nMaybe we should look at <a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/02\/planning-opportunity-lowndes-county-thoroughfare-plan.html\">\r\nthe county thoroughfare plan<\/a> to see where\r\nroad and bridge projects and the development that follow them are going.\r\nHm, it seems to be missing from the county website.\r\nSeems to me <a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/02\/planning-opportunity-lowndes-county-thoroughfare-plan.html\">\r\nmore review<\/a> of that plan would be better than less.\r\n<p>\r\n-jsq\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The old bridge got condemned during the great flood of April 2009.
