\r\n23 minutes last night to approve 3:2 with many conditions rezoning the\r\n\r\n6c. REZ-2017-09 Robert A. Register Estate<\/a>,\r\nwith no shouting afterwards like there was at at the previous evening’s Planning Commission meeting<\/a>,\r\nyet a lot of grumbling at the Lowndes County Commission Regular Session,\r\nespecially since they seem to have forgotten the greenspace condition.\r\n

\r\nI would like to commend the Commission for the amount and depth of discussion in this meeting, especially in the unscheduled\r\n\r\n10. Commission Comments and Recognitions and Meeting Adjournment<\/a>, which was mostly about Clay Griner’s idea of having\r\na county-wide utility authority including all the cities in the county.\r\nUpdate 2017-10-20:<\/strong> moved the rest of this utility authority commentary down to the video item below<\/a>.\r\n

Also not on the agenda was\r\n\r\nChairman Slaughter comments on community response to Hurricane Irma<\/a>\r\n(which were mostly about county staff; well-deserved especially for Ashley Tye) and\r\n\r\nGeorgia Power Representative recognizes county hurricane response<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nWhile it’s great that Georgia Power came to compliment the county,\r\ndoes that electric utility rep. reside in or pay property taxes in Lowndes County, and why was he not required to state his name and address?\r\nDitto the software salesman for\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n7 f. Public Safety Information Technology Purchase<\/a>.\r\nSure and they had legitimate business with the county.\r\nBut so do many county residents and taxpayers who don’t get to speak\r\nuntil the end of the meeting in Citizens Wishing to Be Heard,\r\nand then only if they filled out a form before the meeting.\r\nIn many counties citizens can speak on any agenda item,\r\nand are invited also to speak before or after the main agenda items.\r\n

\r\nOf agenda items<\/a>,\r\nseven and a half minutes for\r\n\r\n7 f. Public Safety Information Technology Purchase<\/a>\r\n(much of it confusion about the purchase price),\r\nfollowed at 4 minutes by\r\n\r\n 7b. Abandonment of part of Old Lake Park Road and Hickory Grove Road SE<\/a>\r\n

\r\nAn appointee had resigned from each of\r\n\r\nSouth Georgia Community Service Board<\/a> and\r\nthe\r\n\r\nLowndes County DFCS Board<\/a>,\r\na Commissioner made a nomination on the spot,\r\nnobody made any other nomination, and\r\nthe Chairman declared the one mentioned person\r\nappointed by acclamation, with no motion, no second, and no vote.\r\n\r\nMerriam-Webster defines acclamation as<\/a>:\r\n

    \r\nApparently silence is loud approval at the Lowndes County Commission.\r\nHm, I wonder if that’s legal.\r\n
