\nAt the time, Andrew was the costliest hurricane in U.S. history with
\ndamages of $26.5 billion in 1992 dollars (about $50 billion in
\ncurrent dollars), according to the National Weather Service.\n<\/p>\n

\n“The effect of Irma on the state of Florida is going to be much
\ngreater than Andrew’s effect,” said<\/p>\n

Weather Channel senior hurricane
\nspecialist Bryan Norcross, who was a local television meteorologist
\nhailed as a hero during Andrew. “We’re dealing with an entirely
\ndifferent level of phenomenon. There is no storm to compare with
\nthis. Unless you go way back to 1926.”\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hurricane Andrew demolished Homestead Air Force Base<\/a> near Miami,
\nnow known as Homestead Air Reserve Base after much of its operations
\nmoved to Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta, Georgia.<\/p>\n

\nMoody AFB closed yesterday<\/a>
\nahead of Hurricane Irma.
\nI live about three miles from Moody, and I could hear them flying out planes
\nfor days.

\nColumbus Air Force Base, Miss.<\/a>.
\nMoody says:<\/p>\n

\nThe aircraft and rescue assets will remain at Columbus before
\nre-engaging with other Moody assets to assist the Federal Emergency
\nManagement Agency and other first responder agencies during upcoming
\nHurricane Irma relief operations in the Southeast region.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
