\n\n<\/a>\nGeorgia utility regulator Lauren McDonald wants Georgia Power to come\nup with options in the next 30 days for expanding the tiny amount of\nelectricity generated from solar power..\n

\n\n<\/a>\n“I think we need to take an aggressive move and explore what we can\ndo,” McDonald, a veteran member of the Public Service Commission, told\nThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I don\u2019t think the company and\neven our staff has been challenged to the degree that they should be.”\n<\/blockquote>\nGeorgia Power responded saying they would “comply”.\nWhich doesn’t mean much since there’s nothing but one person’s\nopinion to comply with.\n

\nI tend to agree with Neill Herring on this one:\n

\nNeill Herring, a lobbyist for the Sierra Club, called the action “back\nscratching.”\n

\n“They both get to look responsible,” said Herring, adding that there\u2019s a\ngrowing and vocal solar lobby in Georgia. “They have to deal with those\npeople. That’s what this is about.”\n<\/blockquote>\nSo I guess we need to be more vocal to get them to scratch harder.\n

\n\n<\/a>\nGeorgia Power has resisted building solar and other alternative energy\nprojects for years, citing cost and a cloudy Southeast as the two\nmain issues.\n<\/blockquote>\nWhich of course are both bogus excuses, since solar already\n\ncosts less than nuclear to deploy<\/a>,\nand\n\n<\/a>\n\nGeorgia Power’s own web pages admit that:<\/a>\n
\n…insolation values in Georgia are significant enough to support solar\nenergy systems in our state, with the southern two-thirds of Georgia\nhaving equivalent solar insolation values to most of the state of Florida.\n<\/blockquote>\nAlso more sun than Houston, which is busily deploying solar,\nand the same amount as Austin, which is a national leader in solar.\n

\nMaybe some cities also could suggest Georgia Power do something.<\/a>\n
