Over 3000 solar industry participants, 30% of\nwhich will be overseas visitors, are due to descend on the city during\nthe conference following sell out events in Munich and London in 2010,\ngenerating a predicted \u00a34.15m for the city.\n<\/blockquote>\nThat&#8217;s about $6.7 million U.S. dollars.\n<blockquote>\nIt is the only time the event has been hosted outside of London in the\nUK and the first time the conference will be lighting up the city. The\ndecision comes as Birmingham is increasingly recognised as a hub for the\ndeveloping UK solar industry&#8230;\n<\/blockquote>\nSo becoming a leader in solar netted Birmingham a major conference,\nwhich brings income in addition to the jobs and energy generated\ndirectly by the solar projects.\n<p>\nContinuing:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n&#8230;with Renewable Energies Ltd, leading\nproject developers in solar power, establishing its first UK offices in\nthe city. The move will create an initial 60 jobs for the region but is\nlikely to create a further 500 over the next year as the solar industry\nis set to boom.\n<\/blockquote>\nThat&#8217;s 60 jobs by that one company, not counting all the others.\n<p>\nWho&#8217;s organizing all this?\n<blockquote>\nBusiness Birmingham, the city\u2019s official inward investment programme,\nwill be partnering with Birmingham City Council to host a week long\nschedule of sustainable events, topped off with the pioneering Solar UK\nConference and Exhibition. As the only official exhibition of the Solar\nPower Group, the number one trade body in the UK, the Solar UK Conference\nand Exhibition will feature a series of conference programmes working\nwith solar experts REA, MicroPower Council, Praseg and EPIA.\n<\/blockquote>\nHm, maybe <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/last-day-for-advance-rate-at-solar-summit.html\">Solar Summit<\/a> may meet\nin Valdosta some day&#8230;.\nFor that matter, the\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsolarconference.org\/solar2011\/public\/enter.aspx\">\nNational Solar Conference was in Raleigh, NC this year.<\/a>\nMaybe it could come closer&#8230;.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Birmingham lures solar conference from London.
