\r\nThe agenda<\/a> still says 8:30 AM Monday morning for the Work Session,\r\nand they have only half an hour left to change it and still comply with state law.\r\n

\r\nIn case anybody has forgotten Moody AFB is by far the biggest employer in these parts, the county wants\r\n\r\nto hire for $36,000 a year a pair of lobbyists to the Air Force<\/a>:\r\nParker and Lucy Greene,\r\n“to provide consulting services on behalf of Lowndes County to enhance\r\nrelationships with the Air Force and Department of Defence regarding Moody AFB.”\r\n

\r\nKari L. Sands (R.I.P.), VDT, 22 June 2007,\r\n\r\nParker Greene honored with award<\/a>,\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n

\r\nParker Greene was the original chairman of military affairs for the\r\nLowndes-Valdosta Chamber of Commerce in the early 1970s, then served\r\nas executive director of the Moody Support Committee beginning in\r\n1991. He has been credited with making Moody\r\n“BRAC-proof,” a reference to the\r\nBase Realignment and Closure\r\n committee. He also worked for more than 10 years with the\r\nGeorgia Department of Transportation to ensure the improvement of\r\nBemiss Road, the main thoroughfare into and out of Moody.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n“Staff has received a request” to\r\n\r\nrename Val Tech Road<\/a> to be Wiregrass Technical College Road.\r\nWould it hurt them to say where the request came from?\r\n

\r\nKimberly Hobbs wants to be reappointed to \r\nKeep Lowndes Valdosta Beautiful\r\n(KLVB)<\/a>, and Molly Stoltz has resigned from her seat that expires next year,\r\nwith no replacement candidates named.\r\n

\r\nPatricia Iverson wants to be reappointed to the\r\nLowndes County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Board<\/a>,\r\nand Dr. Martha Giddings\r\nhas resigned from a seat expiring in 2020, with no candidates indicated.\r\n

\r\nAbout the\r\nLowndes County Library Board<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n

\r\nThe appointments of Barry Barr, Ray Devery, Sam Allen, Penelope\r\nSchmidt, and Matthew Lawrence to the Lowndes County Library Board\r\nhave expired. The Board of Trustees of SGRL recommends all members\r\nbe reappointed with the exception of Mrs. Schmidt. Mrs. Schmidt does\r\nnot wish to be reappointed. The board also recommends Mr. Gene\r\nToffolo for a previously opened seat. Mr. Gary Wisenbaker personally\r\nsubmitted a request to be considered for any vacant seats.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nSam Allen is also Chair of the Hospital Board<\/a>, as a City of Valdosta appointtee.\r\n

\r\nAbout the\r\nValdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n

\r\nThe appointments for John Sineath and Mike Vickery to the\r\nConstruction Board of Adjustments and Appeals have expired. Mr.\r\nSineath’s, General Contractor appointment is a rotating appointment,\r\nwhich means it is now the City of Valdosta’s turn to appoint someone\r\nto the position. Mr. Mike Vickery fills the role of a plumbing\r\nindustry member on the board.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nAs usual, the county didn’t provide application sheets for any of the candidates, nor did they announce to the public that any of these board slots were up for appointment.\r\nIf you look on lowndescounty.com under Community, then\r\n\r\nBoards and Commissions<\/a>,\r\nthey do at least now provide a sentence on what each board does,\r\nand a link to a page with a list of members and term expiration dates,\r\nin most cases with a link at the bottom to\r\n\r\nan application form<\/a>.\r\nThat’s the application the Commission does not show the public before\r\nthey make appointments.\r\n
