Some<br \/>\ncommunity gardeners have been eagerly awaiting the action for three years.<\/p>\n<p>\nMayor Byron W. Brown&#8217;s administration delayed submitting the master leases<br \/>\nbecause of numerous concerns. The logjam ended late last week when city<br \/>\nplanners sent the proposed agreements to the Council for final action.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We have our insurance signed up, so we&#8217;ll<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thegoodneighborhood.com\/2011\/04\/20\/empowering-neighbors-grassroots-gardens-susannah-barton\/\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   width=\"270\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/thegoodneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Grassroots-Gardens-Susannah-4-20-11.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nhave everything covered under<br \/>\nour liability insurance as of tomorrow morning,&#8221; said Susannah S. Barton,<br \/>\nexecutive director of Grassroots Gardens, a not-for-profit group that<br \/>\nfacilitates leases for block clubs and community organizations. &#8220;Now<br \/>\nI&#8217;m going to go call people and share the good news. And we&#8217;re going to<br \/>\nstart gardening tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nFor the first time, the city has assigned a staff member to work closely<br \/>\nwith Grassroots Gardens.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We&#8217;ll be working with the community planner to help improve our process,&#8221;<br \/>\nBarton said.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe added that the city will be involved in vetting applications for<br \/>\nnew gardens.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We really welcome the involvement and the interest from the city.
