\nShe made a few other comparisons between U.S. and Germany.\nU.S.: 30% investment tax credit.\nGermany: National Feed-in Tariff.\n

\nShe talked about\n\nSunShot: the Apollo mission of our time.<\/a>\nIt aims to reduce solar costs by 75% by the end of the decade,\nmaking solar cost-competitive with fossil fuels without subsidy.\n

\nActual panels cost about the same in U.S. and Germany,\nbut the rest\n\n\nof system costs about twice as much.\nDoE has broken down those other costs into\ncustomer acquisition, financing and contracting, permitting,\ninstallation and performance,\nand other non-hardware and is addressing each of them.\nShe said transparency is key to addressing them.\n

\nDoE rooftop solar challenge,<\/a> looking for areas with\nminimum pop. 500,000 to do interconnected rooftop solar.\nAccording to\n\nDoE’s announcement,<\/a>\n

\nThe Rooftop Solar Challenge will encourage participating government\nteams to compete in four critical areas: standardizing permit processes,\nupdating planning and zoning codes, improving standards for connecting\nto the grid and increasing access to financing. Each team must submit\ndata, including information about their current permitting and grid\ninterconnection processes to establish the baseline against which to\nmeasure the progress they make during the year of the Challenge.\n<\/blockquote>\n
