\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe T-SPLOST motion passed, but as a very unusual split vote, two weeks ago in the Lowndes County Commission Regular Session, 9 May 2017.\r\n

\r\n\r\n4. Peace Officers Memorial Week Proclamation Presentation<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nVice-Chair Joyce Evans presiding, they spent about five minutes on this item,\r\nincluding\r\n\r\na speech by Sheriff Ashley Paulk<\/a>, in which he said his department\r\nwould be having a bigger presence.\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter returned from his “good little trip”\r\nsome time in there\r\nand took up the gavel after the minutes to be approved.\r\n

\r\n\r\n6. ZBOA appointments<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nThey reappointed\r\n\r\n Gretchen Quarterman.\r\nIt was 1 for Michael Cooper and 4 for Victoria Copeland\r\n to fill the seat from which Dr. Willie Houseal\r\nis retiring.\r\nThey voted visibly by raising their hands.\r\n

\r\n\r\n7.a. REZ-2017-04 Rieffel, Johnson Rd SE, R-1 and CON to E-A, Well and Septic, ~5 acres<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nonly the applicant spoke for,\r\nwith nobody speaking against,\r\nand the Commission unanimously approved the split rezoning.\r\n

\r\n\r\n7.b. REZ-2017-05 Jay Carter, R-A to R-1, Well and Septic, 1.46 acres<\/a>\r\n

\r\nBoth Planning Commission and staff recommended approval,\r\nand that’s what they did, with nobody from the audience\r\nspeaking for or against.\r\n

\r\n\r\n8.b. Quit Claim Deed for Excess Right of Way off Boring Pond Lane<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nTabled indefinitely due to county attorney speaking to applicant,\r\nwith no further explanation.\r\n

\r\n\r\n8.c. Consideration of Regional T-SPLOST<\/a>\r\n

\r\nCounty Engineer Mike Fletcher said\r\n11 of 19 counties in the region “have already approved a regional T-SPLOST”.\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall asked how much this would affect LMIG.\r\nFletcher said the county’s match would drop to 10% from 30%.\r\nMarshall moved to support the regional T-SPLOST.\r\nThere was a second (I think Wisenbaker).\r\nThe vote was 3 to 2 and the motion passed.\r\n

\r\n\r\n7.d. Highway 84 Lift Station Pump Repair<\/a>\r\n

\r\nUnanimous approval. Ditto the 8.a. surplus authorization.\r\n

\r\n\r\n9.a. Bids and Contract for the construction of a new Naylor Community Center<\/a>\r\n

\r\nProject Manager Chad McLeod said they’d negotiated a bunch of savings,\r\nthe County Clerk had the contracts in hand, and he recommended them\r\napproving the quarter million dollar project,\r\nwhich they did unanimously.\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wondered when they would be breaking ground.\r\nAnswer: once the contracts were signed, they would get together and set a date.\r\n

\r\nThere was no report from the County Manager, and no Citizens Wishing to Be Heard.\r\n
