\r\n\r\nRegional T-SPLOST<\/a> is on the agenda this morning<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nBack in 2012 we all voted down a statewide T-SPLOST (Transportation Special Sales Tax)<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAs we learned at the\r\n\r\nFebruary Lowndes County Commission Planning Session Day 2<\/a>,\r\non 28 February 2017 in Waycross there was a “public hearing” about a possible regional T-SPLOST.\r\nWhen I asked SGRC about that, they sent the Waycross agenda<\/a>, saying\r\n“This is\r\nnot a public meeting and was not advertised as such, however it is open\r\nto the public.”\r\nApparently something happened at that meeting, since T-SPLOST is on the\r\nLowndes County Commission agenda now, with this in the attached document<\/a>:\r\n

HISTORY, FACTS AND ISSUES: According to House Bill 170, counties within a Regional\r\nCommission District have the option to institute a Regional T-SPLOST. The Georgia\r\nDepartment of Transportation is requesting action to be taken by April 1, 2017, either in\r\nfavor of or opposed to a Regional T-SPLOSI’. If ten (10) of the eighteen (18) regional\r\ncounties fail to get support for a Regional T-SPLOST, then individual counties can initiate an\r\nindependent T-SPLOST’.\r\n<\/blockquote>.\r\n

\r\nAfter Lowndes County spent unknown hundreds of thousands of dollars suing\r\n\r\n\r\non behalf of\r\n\r\nAdvanced Disposal Services<\/a> with investors from New York City\r\nto keep\r\n\r\nDeep South Sanitation<\/a> from competing for solid waste pickup\r\nin the county, both finally got licenses to do so, and those are up for\r\nrenewal.\r\n

\r\nAnother\r\nLift Station Pump<\/a>\r\nneeds replacing. How many is that?\r\nThis one feeds most of the flow to the county’s Land Application Site (LAS).\r\n

\r\nAnd\r\n\r\nDasher apparenntly wants the county to maintain its streets<\/a>.\r\nAll this morning at 8:30, with voting tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM.\r\n

        \r\n\t\t\tThe Bevel Creek lift station is a triplex station that delivers over 60% of the wastewater flow to the LAS. Currently we have a pump out of service that is twenty-seven years old. The cost to repair this pump exceeds the cost of a new pump. Staff recommends purchasing a new pump from Xylem for $34,908.11.\t\t\r\n
