\n\n<\/a>\nAn unscheduled report and testimonials by Commissioners\nsaid the county’s ankle monitoring program is going well and saving money,\nin this morning’s\nLowndes County Commission Work Session.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>\n\nAnkle Monitoring:<\/a>\nIn another item not on the agenda,\n\n<\/a>\nthe Chairman asked “Mr. Steven Harmon” to give a report\n(I’m guessing I got the right Steven Harmon in the picture here).\nLowndes County apparently saves over one million dollars each year\nby using an ankle monitoring program, rather than keeping non-violent\noffenders in the county jail.\nThat program\nwas\n\ninitially approved by the Commission 13 December 2011<\/a>,\nrequired\n\na budget adjustment 10 January 2012,<\/a>\nwas\n\nfunded by the Commission 19 June 2012,<\/a>\nand was\n\nin the budget approved 26 June 2012.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

We the public still don’t really know what’s in this program, because\n\n\n\n<\/a>\nnone\nof the documents the Commission has reviewed about it have been made public.\nCommissioners were very positive about this program, and I hope it is\nas good as they say it is.\nI’m certainly for fewer people being locked up,\nand for saving tax money that way.\nYou’d think with a program they say is this great,\nCommissioners would want the public to know the details.\n<\/p>\n
