\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nBill Branham’s\r\n\r\nCopeland Road development<\/a>\r\ngot six minutes of discussion, the longest in yesterday morning’s Work Session,\r\nwith others of the seven rezonings also getting discussion,\r\nplus, surprisingly, the\r\n\r\nproposed VOCA grant<\/a>, because the outgoing DA spoke.\r\nThey vote tonight at 5:30 PM.\r\nI would like to compliment the Commissioners on asking questions and\r\nhaving discussion in the Work Session.\r\nEven ever-silent Joyce Evans spoke up about\r\n\r\nthe MIDS on-call bus system grant re-application<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nThey’re going to\r\n\r\nreappoint<\/a> Dr. Randy Smith to the Board of Health.\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter said:\r\n“Inside your packets you have a letter from Dr. Grove supporting Dr. Smith.”\r\n

\r\nBut we the citizens, taxpayers, and recipients of health care didn’t get to see that letter.\r\nThe Chairman went on to recommend Dr. Smith, and I thank him for making that recommendation in public where we could all see and hear it.\r\nDr. Smith is probably a fine board member: that’s not the point.\r\nThe point is if the public could see these things they might have useful input,\r\nnot to mention it’s the public’s business the Commission is doing.\r\nSimilarly Commissioners had\r\n\r\na quarterly financial report “before you”<\/a>,\r\nbut the public couldn’t see it.\r\nIf\r\n\r\ntiny Effingham County can publish its County Commission packets,\r\nmighty Lowndes County could to it, too<\/a>.\r\n
