\nSeveral hundred people, mostly labor union members, rallied Saturday\nat the Georgia Capitol against the state’s new law targeting illegal\nimmigrants. It was the latest in a string of actions by opponents to\nprotest the law.\n

\nThe Rev. Al Sharpton told the crowd the law violates civil and human\nrights and will lead to racial profiling of U.S. citizens and others\nwho are in the country legally.\n

\n“We’re going to stop it here before it goes any further to other\ncommunities,” the New York-based minister and civil rights activist\nsaid. “We cannot have a nation where, based on your language or your race,\ndetermines your rights. Your rights must be determined by the fact that\nwe’re all equal.”\n<\/blockquote>\nThe Washington Examiner included a byline,\nby Kate Brumback<\/a>, and an AP photo:\n

\n\n<\/a>\nBen Speight, a local Teamsters organizer, echoed those sentiments and\nsaid labor groups must get involved.\n

\n“Let’s get in the way of hate. Let’s build a social movement,” he said,\nto loud cheers. “Labor cannot be isolated. We’ve got to reach out to\nthe community and stand up against hate.”\n<\/blockquote>\nWeekly rallies; an interesting development on a subject that unites\nurban union members and rural farmers.\n
