However,\nthe level of majority support was within the the poll&#8217;s margin of error.\n<p>\nThirty percent of those polled said they &#8220;definitely supported&#8221; legalizing\nmarijuana, while 24 percent said they were \u201cinclined to support,\nbut needed to know more.\u201d\n<p>\nThirty-two percent of the voters were &#8220;definitely opposed&#8221; to legal pot,\nand 11 percent were \u201cinclined to oppose, but could be convinced\u201d\notherwise, the poll found.\n<\/blockquote>\nWas this enough?\n\n<!--more-->\nNot yet, as Ninja Smoker wrote 9 July 2011,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theweedblog.com\/washington-state-legalization-initiative-does-not-qualify-for-ballot\/\">\nWashington State Legalization Initiative Does Not Qualify For Ballot<\/a>:\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theweedblog.com\/washington-state-legalization-initiative-does-not-qualify-for-ballot\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.theweedblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/sensiblewashingtonbadge.gif\"><\/a>\nIt is with heavy hearts but undiminished resolve that we report that\nwe did not reach our signature gathering goal for I-1149. Simply put,\nwe did not have enough boots on the ground to make it happen.\n<p>\nThe political reality is that putting an initiative on the ballot with\nan all-volunteer effort is practically unheard of, let alone in an\noff-off-year election when political interest is at its lowest. Asking\nvolunteers to collect signatures in Washington\u2019s coldest, rainiest\nspring on record is a tall order, no matter how noble the cause.\n<p>\nWe cannot escape the need for at least some level of paid signature\ngathering. As in 2010, we could very easily have garnered the necessary\nsupport from the public\u2014if only we\u2019d had the money.\n<p>\nFundraising needs to be our top priority in the coming months.\n<\/blockquote>\nConvince some of those 24 percent \u201cinclined to support,\nbut needed to know more\u201d and\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.straightdope.com\/columns\/read\/2912\/did-george-washington-and-thomas-jefferson-grow-marijuana\">\nGeorge Washington can be growing hemp again.<\/a>\n<p>\nAs Ninja Smoker concluded:\n<blockquote>\n&#8230;the work isn\u2019t done until Prohibition is repealed.\n<\/blockquote>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/portugal-ends-drug-prohibition-and-addiction-declines.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/5\/5c\/Flag_of_Portugal.svg\/225px-Flag_of_Portugal.svg.png\"><\/a>\nToo bad they&#8217;re not really going for ending drug prohibition,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/portugal-ends-drug-prohibition-and-addiction-declines.html\">like Portugal successfully did<\/a>, but at least the slackers in Washington are trying to end one aspect of prohibition.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Richard Wagoner wrote in the Seattle Times 5 July 2011, Elway poll: Washington voters favor legalizing pot: A new Elway poll released today found that most Washington voters supported or were inclined to support legalizing marijuana.
