Noll asked commissioners to speak with Industrial Authority\nboard members about the 22.2 acre tract of land that is being considered\nfor purchase by Wiregrass Power LLC. Noll is concerned the company will\nuse the land to pursue previous plans to construct a biomass facility,\na proposal which has seen considerable negative community backlash over\nthe last year.\n<p>\n\u201cI think commissioners made this very clear that the Industrial\nAuthority should have been done with this project,\u201d said Paulk. \u201cI\ndon&#8217;t think we&#8217;ve changed our mind. I can&#8217;t speak for the City of\nValdosta, but I think they&#8217;re prepared to make some moves and make\na statement on their behalf in the immediate future. It&#8217;s a project\nthat didn&#8217;t work and when things don&#8217;t work, move on to things that\ndo. That&#8217;s my personal opinion.\u201d\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lowndescounty.com\/content.asp?pid=22&#038;id=122j\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/lowndescounty.com\/content\/board\/c122\/misc\/powell2011%20smaller%20version.jpg\"><\/a>\nDistrict 3 commissioner Crawford Powell offered his insight on the issue,\n\u201cThe issue the Industrial Authority has is they had a contractual\nagreement on the sale of the property and so they&#8217;re trying to work\nthrough that but I don&#8217;t think there\u2019s any particular excitement on\ntheir behalf to continue down that road.\u201d\n<\/blockquote>\nAccording to usually reliable sources, it was Crawford Powell\nwho\n\n<!--more-->\npushed for the Commissioners\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/paulk-interrogates-noll.html\">\nto come out against biomass as soon as he was elected.<\/a>\nBack in April, <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/move-on-find-other-avenues-other-projects-ashley-paulk.html\">\nAshley Paulk publicly did an about-face<\/a>\nand asked if any commissioners still thought the biomass plant should proceed.\nAll three voting commissioners sat mute at that time.\n<p>\nThis time, Crawford Powell spoke up and provided information the community\nneeded to hear.\n<p>\nAs my mother used to say, it takes a big man to admit it when he&#8217;s wrong.\n<p>\nCrawford Powell, like Ashley Paulk and <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/05\/rev-george-bennett-is-a-big-man-lcdp-2-may-2011.html\">George Bennett<\/a>, is a big man about the biomass situation!\nCongratulations, Crawford Powell!\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"According to David Rodock in the VDT today about last night&#8217;s County Commission regular session: Only one citizen, Dr. Michael Noll, came forward to speak with commissioners.
