\n\n<\/a>\nArizona recently greenlit a new private prison slated to host over\n5,000 beds.\n

\nPrivate prison supporters have long argued that private prisons save\nthe state money. Now new research by the American Friends Service\nCommitteesuggests Arizona’s private prisons are generally costing the\nsame amount, if not more than state prisons.\n

\n“There’s an abundance of evidence that private prisons aren’t saving\nus money, are not entirely safe, and are really not good for the state\nof Arizona,” says Caroline Isaacs, program director of the committee,\ntells Arizona Illustrated.\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nWe don’t need a private prison in Lowndes County, Georgia.\nSpend those tax dollars on rehabilitation and education instead.\n
