{"id":16918,"date":"2016-06-14T21:35:23","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T01:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=16918"},"modified":"2016-06-14T21:35:23","modified_gmt":"2016-06-15T01:35:23","slug":"you-can-choose-love-valdosta-vigil-for-orlando","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2016\/06\/you-can-choose-love-valdosta-vigil-for-orlando.html","title":{"rendered":"You can choose love: Valdosta vigil for Orlando"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nBefore the names of the dead were read by 50 of the crowd\r\nthat numbered at least three times as many;\r\nbefore the moment of silence and the prayer\r\nand the thanks to all the first responders and police who assisted at the scene in Orlando;\r\nthis evening at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/news\/local_news\/valdosta-vigil-set-for-orlando\/article_fdcaa784-0e34-5b0a-90e9-4c4675038bf1.html\">St Barnabas Church on Bemiss Road<\/a>\r\none speaker said we could choose to focus on the person who did this horrible thing in Orlando,\r\nor we could choose to focus on fear, but as for her and her house,\r\nshe chooses love:\r\ngo out and do something for your neighbor.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<a title=\"Choose to focus on love\" href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=16910\">\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none\" id=\"16913\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Choose to focus on love\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/eff72df1d4a65e7e29166a18569228cc.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe gathering also served as<!--more-->\r\n\r\n a sort of anniversary celebration for\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walb.com\/story\/29419364\/south-georgians-celebrate-same-sex-marriage-ruling\">\r\none of the first same-sex marriages in Lowndes County, GA<\/a>,\r\ndowntown at the courthouse June 26th 2015.\r\nThe same TV reporter as a year ago interviewed the happy couple again.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<a title=\"Anniversary\" href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=16914\">\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none\" id=\"16917\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Anniversary\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ceed7219131dbf9e289226a5235e4e20.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThis event was outside Valdosta City Limits, so I suppose the Mayor\r\ndidn&#8217;t need an excuse like\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/07\/mayor-starts-walking-back-gay-pride-comments-on-walb.html\">when he refused to proclaim a Gay Pride event or he refused to sign an anti-bullying proclamation<\/a>.\r\nBut where were all the Lowndes County elected officials?\r\nAt least there was one Sheriff&#8217;s deputy: thanks to him and his department\r\nfor standing watch for all the people of the county.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Before the names of the dead were read by 50 of the crowd that numbered at least three times as many;
