\nThere is no question how the Law reads; the only question is who indicated\nthere no wrong doing? And they were questioning my character? I\nquestion those people who indicated I had a bios opinion to read the\nlaws of Georgia. I am aware you can mirror laws and even add to them\nin county ordinances but you cannot take away from the law in anyway.<\/FONT><\/P>\n

Under\nGuidelines for Euthanasia <\/FONT>\n<\/P>\n

When\nperforming <\/FONT>euthanasia\nin a shelter<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

\n, <\/FONT>each\nindividual animal must be treated with respect (AVMA 2007).<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT>\nA veterinarian with the appropriate training and expertise for the\nspecies involved should be consulted to ensure that proper procedures\nare used. <\/FONT>Any\neuthanasia method used in a shelter must quickly induce loss of\nconsciousness followed by death, while ensuring the death is free\nfrom pain, distress, anxiety or apprehension as possible<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT>.\nThe euthanasia method must be reliable, irreversible and compatible\nwith the species, age and health status of the animal (AVMA 2007).\n<\/FONT>Any agent\nor method that is unacceptable according to the AVMA Guidelines on\nEuthanasia is also unacceptable for use in shelters. <\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT>\n<\/P>\n

4-11-5.1.\nSubstances and procedures for euthanasia of dogs and cats by animal\nshelters<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(a)\nExcept as provided in subsection (b) of this Code section, the use of\nsodium pentobarbital or a derivative of it shall be the <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>exclusive\nmethod for euthanasia of dogs and cats by animal shelters or other\nfacilities which are operated for the collection and care of stray,\nneglected, abandoned, or unwanted animals. A lethal solution shall be\nused in the following order of preference:<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(1<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>)<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT>\nIntravenous injection <\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>by\nhypodermic needle;<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(2)\n<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>Intraperitoneal\ninjection<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>\nby hypodermic needle; or<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(3)<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>\n<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>Intracardial\ninjection<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>\nby hypodermic needle.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(b)\nNotwithstanding subsection (a) of this Code section:<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(1)\nA chamber using commercially bottled carbon monoxide gas which was\nused on July 1, 1990, for euthanasia of dogs and cats by any animal\nshelter or other facility may continue to be used for such purposes\nby such animal shelter or facility if such animal shelter or facility\nnotifies the Commissioner of Agriculture, in writing, on or before\nAugust 1, 1990, that such a chamber was in use by such animal shelter\nor facility on July 1, 1990.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

However,\na chamber which causes a change in body oxygen by means of altering\natmospheric pressure or which is connected to an internal combustion\nengine and uses the engine exhaust for euthanasia purposes shall not\nbe permitted under any circumstances; and<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(2)\nAny substance which is clinically proven to be as humane as sodium\npentobarbital and which has been officially recognized as such by the\nAmerican Veterinary Medical Association may be used in lieu of sodium\npentobarbital to perform euthanasia on dogs and cats, but\nsuccinylcholine chloride, curare, curariform mixtures, or any\nsubstance which acts as a neuromuscular blocking agent may not be\nused on a dog or cat in lieu of sodium pentobarbital for euthanasia\npurposes.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(c)\nIn addition to the exceptions provided for in subsection (b) of this\nCode section, in cases of extraordinary circumstance where the dog or\ncat poses an extreme risk or danger to the veterinarian, physician,\nor lay person performing euthanasia, such person shall be allowed the\nuse of any other substance or procedure that is humane to perform\neuthanasia on such dangerous dog or cat.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(d)\nA dog or cat may be tranquilized with an approved and humane\nsubstance before euthanasia is performed.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(e)\nEuthanasia shall be performed by a licensed veterinarian or physician\nor a lay person who is properly trained in the proper and humane use\nof a method of euthanasia. Such lay person shall perform euthanasia\nunder supervision of a licensed veterinarian or physician. This shall\nnot be construed so as to require that a veterinarian or physician be\npresent at the time euthanasia is performed.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(f)\nNo dog or cat may be left unattended between the time euthanasia\nprocedures are first begun and the time death occurs, nor may its\nbody be disposed of until death is confirmed by a qualified person.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(g)\nThe supervising veterinarian or physician shall be subject to all\nrecord-keeping requirements and inspection requirements of the State\nBoard of Pharmacy pertaining to sodium pentobarbital and other drugs\nauthorized under subsection (b) of this Code section and may limit\nthe quantity of possession of sodium pentobarbital and other drugs\nauthorized to ensure compliance with the provisions of this Code\nsection.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

(h)\nThis Code section shall not apply to any animal shelter or other\nfacility located in a county having a population of 25,000 or less\naccording to the most recent United States decennial census.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P>\n

Correct\nme if I am wrong, but at the top of this sheet, to the right of the\ndate 5\/20\/2011 it clearly states the recommended dosage for body\nweight, it does not state to save money or because the vet says so\nthat these animals can be euthanized with 0.5 cc\u2019s, What it does\nsay is this \u201c<\/FONT><\/FONT>Any agent or\nmethod that is unacceptable according to the AVMA Guidelines on\nEuthanasia is also unacceptable for use in shelters.\u201d <\/FONT>It\nreads no other way.<\/B><\/FONT><\/FONT> <\/FONT>\n<\/P>\n
