{"id":1641,"date":"2011-08-15T11:03:06","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T15:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/08\/why-should-traffic-safety-not-be-a-pertinent-fact.html"},"modified":"2011-08-15T11:03:06","modified_gmt":"2011-08-15T15:03:06","slug":"why-should-traffic-safety-not-be-a-pertinent-fact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/08\/why-should-traffic-safety-not-be-a-pertinent-fact.html","title":{"rendered":"Why should traffic safety not be a pertinent fact?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve seen that <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/suburbia-dangerous-for-pedestrians.html\"><br \/>\ntraffic safety is a big problem in Atlanta<\/a> and elsewhere,<br \/>\nand<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/09\/communities-not-cul-de-sacs.html\"><br \/>\nVirginia is leading the way in traffic redesigns to fix such problems.<\/a><br \/>\nMeanwhile,<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/05\/lot-size-and-code-enforcement-on-old-pine-road-8-june-2010.html\"><br \/>\nLowndes County<\/a><br \/>\ndoesn&#8217;t consider it even pertinent:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/05\/lot-size-and-code-enforcement-on-old-pine-road-8-june-2010.html\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/i3.ytimg.com\/vi\/VJAs0zqph3w\/default.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nTraffic on Old Pine will be regulated by the amount of people who<br \/>\nuse the highway;<br \/>\ntraffic on Bemiss since you and I moved out there forty years ago.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not going to argue Bemiss Highway, it&#8217;s not a pertinent fact.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VJAs0zqph3w\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s right, traffic and traffic safety are considered not pertinent<br \/>\nto building subdivisions, according to the Chairman of the Lowndes County<br \/>\nCommission, and the actions of the Commissioners and staff.<br \/>\nThe developer gets to consider only their one property and<br \/>\nthe neighbors get to deal with all the effects on all the related roads.<br \/>\nPrivatization of profits and socialization of problems<br \/>\nsuch as traffic accidents.<br \/>\nDoes that seem right to you?<\/p>\n<p>\nIf not, it&#8217;s going to go on until more people argue and<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/debate-is-not-allowed-well-why-not.html\">debate.<\/a><br \/>\nIn fact, many of Lowndes County&#8217;s T-SPLOST tax request would make the problem worse.<br \/>\nSee <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/do-we-need-more-of-the-same-unsafe-roads.html\"><br \/>\nnext post.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve seen that traffic safety is a big problem in Atlanta and elsewhere, and Virginia is leading the way in traffic redesigns to fix such problems.
