STWP Update Due Fall 2011<\/H3>\n
<\/td><\/tr><\/table>\nThe five\u2010year Short Term Work Plan (STWP) for the 2030 Greater Lowndes\nCounty Comprehensive Plan is due for an update later this year. The\nSTWP is a key implementation tool that reflects the activities and\nstrategies to support the Comprehensive Plan goals, which the City\nof Valdosta has undertaken for the past five years (2007\u20102011). It\nalso sets future activities and strategies for the next five years\n(2012\u20102017). A \u2018report of accomplishments\u2019 that identifies the\ncurrent status of each activity in the current STWP must be submitted\nto the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. A local public hearing\nmust be held and a local resolution passed in order to adopt a the STWP\nupdate. How often is the Comprehensive Plan updated?<\/H3>\nThe State of Georgia requires local governments to update their\nComprehensive Plan every 10 years, which is the update currently underway.\nEvery 5 years the Short Term Work Program of the Plan is updated.\nFollowing completion of the current update, staff foresees minor\namendments to the Comprehensive Plan to occur on an annual basis.\nThese updates will ensure the plan correctly depicts the community’s\ngoals as development and growth occur.\n

How can I be involved in the update process of the Plan?<\/H3>\nThis website is a great tool for staying up to date on the comprehensive\nplanning process. Drafts of the plan will be available for review on\nthis site along with newsletters providing updates every other month.\nAdditionally, throughout the planning process, there will be several\nopportunities for citizen involvement. Staff will hold meetings in the\nCounty and in each of the municipalities to meet with citizens regarding\ntheir input on community growth and development. As mentioned above, one\nsection of the Comprehensive Plan is the Community Participation Program,\nwhich further describes the methods used to ensure citizen involvement.\nFor more information please view the\n\nCommunity Participation Program<\/a> page.\n<\/blockquote>\nThat would be a good idea, but the most recent events in that\n\nCommunity Participation Program<\/a>\nare for 2006.<\/a>\nI remember some of those: I went and reviewed the Comprehensive Plan\nbefore it was adopted.\n
