Res., canopy roads, ag. --Greg Odom\" src=\"http:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/RsQzxqrDRTg\/default.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p style=\"font-style:normal\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RsQzxqrDRTg&#038;list=PLshUv86fYkiGbhMC0qBbZSPVTfwBzexZC&#038;index=5\">Video.<\/a>\r\nGreg Odom noted residents and property owners on dirt roads often desire to keep\r\nthe ambience and natural beauty of their dirt roads.\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<P>\r\nI think Florida is having great success with its canopy roads program.\r\nAnd we can have a canopy roads program here, and it can be advertised\r\njust like Florida advertises its&#8230;.\r\n<p>\r\nFor the past 25 years there has not been a healthy attitude\r\nabout people who want to maintain dirt roads.\r\nThere has been an attitude of let&#8217;s pave everything,\r\nand let&#8217;s pave it in an outrageous way, with these wide swathes of 80-foot right of way.\r\n<p>\r\nAnd that brings me to my second request, that the county\r\nconsider paving roads in a different way.\r\nThe way Virginia paves its roads, its rural roads, the way\r\nNorth Carolina paves its rural roads,\r\nThey pave what&#8217;s there, with a ditch on the side, without \r\nthese large grassy swales that result in the destruction of 80 feet of trees\r\non either side of the right of way,\r\nwhich gives something else that has to be maintained and mowed.\r\n<p>\r\nThe rejoinder that we have historically heard is,\r\n<blockquote>\r\n&#8220;Oh well, we have to pave them that way to get the federal backing money,\r\nthe state backing money, and we can&#8217;t afford, we don&#8217;t want to lose all that backing money.&#8221;\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"font-style:normal\">\r\nWell if you did it the easier, simpler, more natural way, you wouldn&#8217;t need \r\nthe extra money.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"font-style:normal\">\r\nHe said these were issues of natural and cultural resources.\r\nJulia Shewchuk said the canopy road maybe would come under natural resources,\r\nperhaps combined with historic features,\r\nand road paving somewhere else.\r\nGretchen suggested under transportation.\r\n<p style=\"font-style:normal\">\r\nJohn Gregory Odom of Hahira, New Orleans, and New York City is\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.odrlaw.com\/attorneys.htm\">\r\na prominent attorney<\/a>\r\nwho does not work for\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2016\/02\/why-people-dont-speak-up-they-owe-their-soul-to-the-company-store.html\">the company store<\/a>,\r\nand thus is free to speak up.\r\nIt turns out his point about handouts actually already has been addressed,\r\nalthough apparently few people knew it; <a href=\"#online\">see below<\/a>.\r\nBut his substantive points about roads have not been handled.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>\r\nHere&#8217;s\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLshUv86fYkiGbhMC0qBbZSPVTfwBzexZC\">\r\na video playlist:<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/videoseries?list=PLshUv86fYkiGbhMC0qBbZSPVTfwBzexZC\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\r\n<br>\r\nCanopy roads, agriculture, materials?
