\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nDue to a lack of agenda items requiring attention at this time, the\r\nLowndes County Commission Meetings scheduled for Monday, February\r\n22, 2016, at 8:30 am and Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 5:30 pm,\r\nhave been canceled.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThe\r\n\r\nVDT 17 February 2016 quoted County Clerk Paige Dukes<\/a>:\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n“The meetings and agendas are driven by the business of the\r\ncounty. It didn’t make sense to use the people’s resources to make\r\ntime for a meeting.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nPrivatizing trash collection and then\r\nsuing a local business on behalf of a company with investors in New York City, though: that made sense, apparently.\r\n

\r\nSpending money to build this county palace in which they meet also apparently made sense:\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI\r\n\r\ntook that picture<\/a>\r\none year to the week before the County Commission voted a fine resolution agains Sab al Trail.\r\nUnfortunately a bit more than a year later,\r\nthey voted to take $54,300 from Sabal Trail<\/a> for a pipeline easement through the closed landfill near Clyattville.\r\nWe still don’t even know whether that was the first offer.\r\nAny one-time payment would be too little for facilitating\r\nthat unnecessary, destructive, and hazardous fracked methane boondoggle.\r\n

\r\nConveniently for the Commission, no meetings means no citizens standing up\r\nat the end and complaining about that.\r\n
