\r\n\r\n\"Comprehensive<\/a>\r\nFollowing\r\n\r\nthe email announcement about the Comprehensive Plan<\/a>,\r\nI showed up late, expecting no formal presentation and\r\na typical SGRC tables-and-easels mill-about meeting,\r\nand found the Planning Commission and staff in their usual seats.\r\nTurns out they were there for their\r\nWork Session agenda<\/a>;\r\nsee the\r\nLAKE videos<\/a>.\r\nAs you can see in this video<\/a> of the first part of the meeting,\r\nthere were citizen questions from Valdosta City Council Sandra Tooley and from me.\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\nCounty Planner Jason Davenport explained that they were going to have\r\nmore public hearings on the Comprehensive Plan, many of them also\r\nshoehorned in before the GPLC Work Sessions.\r\nThey all agreed to try to end the Work Session at 6:00\r\nso the Comprehensive Plan meeting could start then.\r\nThey considered 6:30, but decided it was better to start late than\r\nto potentially start early and be over before the public showed up. But see below<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nPlus eventually there would be agenda items on each local government agenda\r\nfor adoption.\r\n

\r\nI asked how people were supposed to know this was a public hearing,\r\nsince I couldn’t find any notice even in the newspaper?\r\nSGRC staffer Ariel Godwin said he had put a public notice in the VDT\r\nas required by state law.\r\nHe also said he had a “stakeholder” list, with about 350 names on it,\r\nto which he sent an announcement.\r\nCounty Planner Jason Davenport said he thought I was on that list.\r\nI said actually Gretchen was, which was why I knew about it.\r\n

\r\nValdosta City Council Sandra Tooley wanted to know what this was about,\r\nespecially was it just about transportation.\r\nGodwin and Davenport explained it included transportation but wasn’t limited\r\nto that, and this was an update to the plan first reviewed ten years ago\r\nand adopted shortly afterwards.\r\n

\r\nThere’s one meeting scheduled, 6:30 PM Monday 22 February after the GLPC Work Session, at their usual place, 325 West Savannah Avenue, Valdosta.\r\nI just confirmed with Ariel Godwin that time and place.\r\nHe says more have been discussed, but are not yet scheduled. \r\n
