Quarterman for LAKE, the Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange.\n<\/small>\n<p>\nThis text is my transcription of what was read.\nI have added a few links.\n<p>\n-jsq\n<blockquote>\n<center>\n<H2>RESOLUTION<\/H2>\n<\/center>\n<p>\nWHEREAS the Lowndes County Board of Education, Valdosta, Georgia,\nmet on August the 30th 2011,\nto discuss positions regarding the consolidation of the\nValdosta City School System and the Lowndes County School System.\n<p>\nWHEREAS\nthe Valdosta City School System met in session on Monday\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nAugust the 29th 2011\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/vboe-voting-to-oppose-school-consolidation-29-august-2011.html\">\nto adopt a\nposition opposing consolidation<\/a>\nof the Valdosta City school systems with the Lowndes County\nschool systems.\n<p>\nWHEREAS virtually no increase in academic achievement\nhas been identified as a result of efforts to consolidate school systems.\n<p>\nWHEREAS the consolidation of school systems has consistently\nled to an increase in the tax burden on the taxpayers\nof the newly consolidated schools,\nfinancial claims about widespread benefits of consolidation\nare unsubstantiated by research.\n<p>\nWHEREAS school consolidation as proposed appears to serve a public\nrelations purpose in a time of fiscal crisis rather than substantive\nfiscal or educational purposes.\n<p>\nBE IT RESOLVED the Lowndes County Board of Education fully supports\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/valdosta-school-board-statement-against-school-consolidation.html\">\nthe position taken by the Valdosta City School System opposing consolidation.<\/a>\n<p>\nBE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Lowndes County School System respects the\nautonomy of the Valdosta City School System and will continue to work\ncooperatively with them to provide the highest quality of education for\nstudents of both school systems.\n<p>\nBE IT FURTHER RESOLVED any effort to consolidate the\nValdosta City School System with the Lowndes County School System\nmust be initiated with the efforts of the educators and parents\nof both the city and county school systems.\nFurther, all citizens, city and county, must be made an opportunity\nto participate in any election to consider the consolidation\nof the Valdosta City School System with the Lowndes County School System.\n<p>\nThis 30th day of August 2011.\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Here is the text of the resolution against school consolidation adopted today by the Lowndes County Board of Education.
