{"id":15483,"date":"2016-01-19T08:38:47","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T13:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=15483"},"modified":"2016-01-19T08:39:42","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T13:39:42","slug":"six-board-slots-to-be-appointed-by-valdosta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2016\/01\/six-board-slots-to-be-appointed-by-valdosta.html","title":{"rendered":"Six board slots to be appointed by Valdosta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nYou have to live in Lowndes County, but not necessarily in Valdosta,\r\nto volunteer to serve on one of these appointed boards.\r\nCity of Valdosta PR 14 January 2016,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostacity.com\/Index.aspx?page=270&#038;recordid=3649&#038;returnURL=%2findex.aspx\">Six Opportunities to Serve in New Year<\/a>,\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/videos-tourism-authority-february-meeting-vlcccta-2013-02-27.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"https:\/\/i4.ytimg.com\/vi\/kWW2UfRoiWI\/mqdefault.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nValdosta-Lowndes County residents who have made serving their\r\ncommunity a New Year&#8217;s resolution have until Wednesday, Feb. 3, to\r\napply for one of six city appointments to serve on a board,\r\ncommission, authority or advisory committee.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe Valdosta City Council will vote on the new appointments at their\r\nFeb. 11 City Council meeting to fill the following vacancies:\r\n<\/p><!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\nValdosta Historic Preservation Commission &mdash; 2\r\n<li>\r\nMPO Citizens Advisory Committee &mdash; 1\r\n<li>\r\nValdosta-Lowndes County Land Bank Authority &mdash; 2 *\r\n<li>\r\nValdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center &amp; Tourism Authority\r\n&mdash; 1 **\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>\r\nNOTE\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n* Appointment will be made by the Mayor.\r\n<p>\r\n** Applicants for this slot must be associated with the Lodging and\r\nTourism Industry.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;These appointments are designed to give citizens a voice in\r\ntheir local government and provide a means of influencing decisions\r\nthat shape the quality of life for the residents in our\r\ncommunity,&rdquo; said Valdosta Mayor John Gayle.\r\n&ldquo;Participation on one of these organizations is one of the\r\nmost effective steps a citizen can take in becoming an active voice\r\nin local government.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe City of Valdosta advertises for these appointments on a\r\nquarterly basis to ensure that citizens have the knowledge of these\r\nopportunities to serve. The appointments are made in February, May,\r\nAugust, and November or as vacancies occur.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nApplicants must review the Membership Requirements and Code of\r\nEthics Booklet, complete a General Board Application, and sign a\r\nCode of Ethics form.
