Rainwater Conference Center for the purpose of identifying\r\nand discussing solutions related to community wide issues. The\r\nmeeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the public is encouraged to\r\nattend.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nWhen: 9AM-10AM Tuesday 19 January 2016\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nWhere: James H. Rainwater Conference Center,\r\n1 Meeting Place,\r\nValdosta, GA 31601\r\n<p style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-3em\">\r\nContact: County Clerk, Paige Dukes, 229-671-2400\r\n<p>\r\nCounty Chairman Bill Slaughter announced this meeting at\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2016\/01\/videos-why-emergency-bridge-fixes-appoint-tax-assessors-rush-project-max-lcc-2016-01-12.html\">\r\nthe Lowndes County Commission Regular Session 12 January 2016<\/a>:<!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nI have had the opportunity back last year to speak with the mayors in our community, and they have graciously agreed for the county, for their staff, for their councilmen, as well as our Commission, to come together Tuesday January 19th at Rainwater Conference Center.\r\nThis will be a public meeting.\r\nEveryone will be invited to attend.\r\n<p>\r\nBut this will be an opportunity for the local governments to identify some\r\nissues in our community that we can work together on, to see if there is some\r\nway we can improve them and make it better.\r\nWe&#8217;re going to identify some of these issues; we&#8217;ll have some discussion about those issues.\r\nAnd then as we move forward hopefully we&#8217;ll be able to make discussions as to which ones we want to focus on for the coming year.\r\nAnd then our staffs will be able to then go back and start working on those for us, and then set some goals and some thigns we can address community-wide as a group of local governments working today.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nHe greeted Valdosta Mayor John Gayle, who was sitting in the room.\r\n<p>\r\nSlaughter never made it clear whether there would be public input at the Tuesday meeting,\r\nor the public was merely invited to watch.\r\nHe did make it clear <a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2016\/01\/videos-why-emergency-bridge-fixes-appoint-tax-assessors-rush-project-max-lcc-2016-01-12.html#CWTBH-Diane-Guess\">in Citizens Wishing to Be Heard at the Regular Session<\/a> that Commissioners were not to ask questions of citizens nor to answer them.\r\nI would ask the county or one of the cities about the special joint meeting,\r\nbut local government offices are closed today for the\r\nMartin Luther King Jr. holiday.\r\n<p>\r\nHere&#8217;s\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=b2qDVNGSc-w&#038;index=2&#038;list=PLshUv86fYkiGvwhFMXY46Mmz3FdvgecOy\">\r\nthe video:<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b2qDVNGSc-w\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\r\n<br>\r\n5 cities &amp; Lowndes County: Community Planning Meeting\r\n<br>\r\nCommunity Planning Meeting, Lowndes County Commission (LCC Planning),\r\n<br>\r\nVideo by Gretchen Quarterman for Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE),\r\n<br>\r\nValdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, 19 January 2016.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nValdosta Today has\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostatoday.com\/2016\/01\/lowndes-to-host-first-annual-community-wide-planning-meeting\/\">\r\na bit more<\/a>:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nFor example, litter is a problem throughout Lowndes County.\r\nCurrently, each local government has a program or service in place\r\nto combat litter. A collaborative effort to include a plan of action\r\nwith measurable goals, that could be supported by all local\r\ngovernments, might be more effective than each government&#8217;s\r\nindividual plan. &ldquo;Bottom line, it&#8217;s all about the citizens of\r\nour community and ensuring that we are all working together to\r\nprovide efficient and effective services. This is an opportunity for\r\neveryone to share ideas and discuss the big picture in a format that\r\nallows citizens access to the process.
