Rainwater died before the election.\nCouncil appointed David Sumner interim mayor.\nAccording to <a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x975857822\/Mayor-Fretti-resigns\">the VDT 31 August 2011<\/a>:\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1155882976\/David-Sumner-announces-bid-for-re-election\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/archive\/x1448504099\/g0a0000000000000000bc2a5c7299b67aacb8504fd982040f7b6fcb2b07.jpg\"><\/a>\nAt that time, Councilman David Sumner assumed the role of mayor, but had\nto resign his council seat to do so. He had already qualified to rerun\nfor his seat in the November 2003 election, was re-elected to his seat\nand stepped down as mayor at the end of 2003, re-assuming his duties as\na newly elected councilman at the beginning of 2004.\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nIf they don&#8217;t appoint Vickers interim mayor tomorrow,\nthe Valdosta City Council will probably appoint somebody else.\nAccording to <a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/todays-top-stories\/x1642542208\/Picking-Valdosta-s-New-Mayor\">the VDT today:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nVickers is among those being considered for appointment by council,\nalong with Dexter Sharper and David Sumner, who are also former council\nmembers. Vickers pointed out that he did not submit his name for\nconsideration, but rather it was mentioned in conversations with other\ncouncil members.\n<\/blockquote>\nWe&#8217;ll see.\n<p>\nIn the November election, one of\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/09\/qualifying-is-finished-heres-the-list-1.html\">\nBrooks D.
