\r\nAppointing\r\nTax Assessors will take an act of the legislature and a local referendum to repeal\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nthe 1972 state law that made Lowndes County the only county in Georgia to\r\nelect them, but the Lowndes County Commission Monday morning will consider\r\n\r\na resolution<\/a> to ask the General Assembly to start that process.\r\nin Lowndes County, subject to approval by voters, so after 1 January 2021 they’d be appointed, not elected.\r\nThis is the only county in Georgia that does not appoint its Tax Assessors,\r\nand after\r\n\r\nthe extremely unusual rural land revaluation last year<\/a>,\r\nit does seem something needs to be changed.\r\n

\r\nFor hush-hush Project Max, the big-fish container manufacturing plant proposed for Rocky Ford Road,\r\nnext to the protected watershed of Mud Swamp and near Valdosta Airport,\r\nsee separate post<\/a> for what little the public (or the Planning Commission) is allowed to know.\r\nAlso on\r\nthe Lowndes County Commission agenda<\/a>\r\nfor Monday morning and voting Tuesday evening,\r\nbridge repairs on\r\nClyattville Nankin Road<\/a>\r\nand\r\nJumping Gully Road<\/a>,\r\nand quite a few other items as the Commission catches up after the holidays.\r\n
