Lowndes County has been split\nbetween the first and second districts, and all spring rumors of\nwhere we might end up were circulating.  Eventually we saw a draft\nmap that had Lowndes completely in the 8th District,\n<table style=\"float:right;\" ><tr><th>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/gerrymandering-georgia-for-jack-kingston-to-get-moody-afb.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6067\/6080200797_0739477ec7_t.jpg\"><\/a>\n<br>\n<small>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/gerrymandering-georgia-for-jack-kingston-to-get-moody-afb.html\">\nBefore<\/a>\n<\/small>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr><\/table>\nalong with\nother counties along Interstate 75.  That map made some sense south of Macon.\nSome communities of interest were preserved (most of the Lowndes-Valdosta\nMPO was in the same district) and the hospitality corridor of I-75\nwas in one district, along with the rural farms that surround it.\nValdosta to Macon is easier to traverse than Valdosta to Savannah,\nor Valdosta to Columbus.\n<p>\nBut then Congressman Jack Kingston stuck out his green tongue.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<table style=\"float:right;\" ><tr><th>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/gerrymandering-georgia-for-jack-kingston-to-get-moody-afb.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6073\/6080737410_c51729e7f7_t.jpg\"><\/a>\n<br>\n<small>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/gerrymandering-georgia-for-jack-kingston-to-get-moody-afb.html\">\nAfter<\/a>\n<\/small>\n<\/th><\/tr><\/table>\nA squiggly little section, cutting through Echols and Clinch counties,\nreaching just to Moody Air Force Base was drawn into the 1st\nCongressional District.\nMoody AFB is the largest employer in Lowndes\nCounty.  It does not make sense to split a community of interest\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/08\/gerrymandering-georgia-for-jack-kingston-to-get-moody-afb.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6204\/6080737606_f187b45288_o.png\"><\/a>\nfrom its largest employer.  Many people who live in Lanier County\nwork at Moody.  It does not make sense to split Lanier County from\nMoody.  Within Lowndes County, the Pine Grove voting precinct was\nsplit in half. So, people who live within just a few miles of Moody\nAFB will have different representation.\n<p>\nIf Jack Kingston loves Moody Air Force Base so much, he should take\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/valdosta-urbanized-area.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.quarterman.com\/images\/vldurbanarea.jpg\"><\/a>\nthe entire community of interest, including all of Lowndes, Lanier,\nand Berrien Counties.  Splitting Moody from Lowndes County and\nthe surrounding community of interest is not in the best interest\nof our community.  Congressman Kingston needs to put his green\ntongue away.
