<\/a>Ashley Paulk is code enforcement<\/H3>\r\nCitizens were opposing a rezoning on Old Pine Road,\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\n8 June 2010<\/a>.\r\nA Mr. Mulligan of Bemiss Road\r\nwanted to know who does code enforcement.\r\nChairman Paulk responded:\r\n
\r\nYou’re looking at him. Me.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

<\/a>I locked up some of my best friends!<\/H3>\r\nWhile he was interrogating Dr. Noll\r\n\r\n12 January 2011<\/a>\r\nwho had the temerity to come to invite the Commission to a meeting,\r\nAshley Paulk remarked:\r\n
\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n“I was the sheriff sixteen years; I locked up some of my best friends;\r\nthat’s the way I operate.”\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nThis was shortly after he said:\r\n\r\n\r\n
\r\n“We have received veiled threats.”\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nWell, I guess he should know about veiled threats.\r\nMaybe the best part, though, was, after attacking Dr. Noll\r\nfor his opinions, his associates, his column in the newspaper, his nationality,\r\netc., Ashley Paulk remarked:\r\n
\r\n“I have email here where some of your cohorts, they attack personalities.”\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nSo I guess that’s OK if you’re the Chairman?\r\n

<\/a>\r\nGet those cameras back or I’ll sic the sheriff on you!<\/H3>\r\nMechelle Sullivan was calmly discussing animal shelter issues on\r\n\r\n28 June 2011<\/a>\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nwhen Ashley Paulk proceeded to accuse the Humane Society:\r\n
\r\n…the Humane Society provided two county employees with undercover\r\ncameras as a gratuity.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nEven ones used\r\n\r\nby citizens to record activities of tax-paid public officials engaged in their duties?<\/a>\r\n

\r\nSo what did he want?\r\n

\r\nIf I don’t get those cameras back and the gratuity I’m going to pursue\r\nit through the Sheriff’s office.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nAs that point he couldn’t find anything in the copious documentation\r\nof animal shelter abuses to send to the sheriff, but he could threaten\r\ncriminal legal action against people trying to video such abuses.\r\n

\r\nAnd this little gem, pointing at the VDT reporter:\r\n

\r\nNeeds to be public record in the VDT.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nWho knew Ashley Paulk could tell the press what to do?\r\n

<\/a>Photographers to the back of the room!<\/H3>\r\nNo longer content with stifling citizens asking questions about safety and\r\ncode enforcement in rezoning hearings<\/a>\r\nor\r\n\r\ninterrogating them<\/a> or\r\nthreatening to sic the sheriff on them<\/a>\r\nin Citizens Wishing to Be Heard,\r\nAshley Paulk has now gotten up to haranguing citizens in work sessions,\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\n12 September 2011<\/a>.\r\nFirst he spoke for the Commission:\r\n
\r\nChairman:\r\nMr Quarterman, The County Commission wishes from this day forward that\r\nany filming be done from the media area in the back corner of the room.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nThen he admitted the Commission had not voted:\r\n
\r\nChairman: Yes sir, we uh independently;\r\n

\r\nChairman: I will submit the chairman without the Commission … do not question\r\nmy authority.\r\n

\r\njsq: So the Commission has not taken a vote on that.\r\n

\r\nChairman: Commission doesn’t have to.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nThen he claimed he was the law:\r\n

\r\njsq: Can I see that legal opinion please?\r\n

\r\nChairman: You’re looking at it.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

Do not question my authority!<\/H3>\r\nWell, no, I wouldn’t dream of that!\r\nI’ll let him do it himself.\r\n

\r\nAshley Paulk seems to think he personally is the law and its enforcement;\r\nalso he can dictate what the media report.\r\n

\r\nYou know, maybe somebody should tell Ashley Paulk he’s not sheriff anymore,\r\na County Commission meeting is not an episode of Cops, and citizens\r\nare not his prisoners in his jail.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nMaybe we should even wonder\r\n\r\nhow he ran his jail.<\/a>\r\n
