The school posts\na per-student transportation cost of $1,198, more than twice the zone\naverage of $529.\n<p>\n\u201cWhy is West Side so important to the county?\u201d parent Brandi Kennedy\nasked. \u201cYou have buses picking up kids all over the county to go to\nWest Side.\u201d\n<p>\nBecause children are chosen to attend the magnet school through a lottery,\nKennedy said she couldn&#8217;t understand funding the fine-arts focus of\nthe school when it is not more prestigious than other county schools.\n<\/blockquote>\nThere are some unhappy parents and students:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nMountville parent Shelia Wessinger, whose daughter is in third grade,\nsaid her daughter in 2008 \u201clost friends because you bused them to\nCallaway.\u201d With the possible consolidation, her daughter would be\nfaced with a major enrollment change again.\n<p>\n\u201cWe&#8217;re not underenrolled,\u201d Wessinger said. \u201cYou took our children to Callaway.\u201d\n<\/blockquote>\nDo people in Hahira realize some of their children would get bussed to Valdosta\nHigh School if &#8220;unification&#8221; passed?\nAnd some children in Valdosta would get bussed to the new county high school\nnorth of town?\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#8220;Unification&#8221; of LaGrange City and Troup County schools was in 1993.
