{"id":1472,"date":"2011-09-27T11:46:16","date_gmt":"2011-09-27T15:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/local-leadership-nets-15-billion-solar-project.html"},"modified":"2011-09-27T11:46:16","modified_gmt":"2011-09-27T15:46:16","slug":"local-leadership-nets-15-billion-solar-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/local-leadership-nets-15-billion-solar-project.html","title":{"rendered":"Local leadership nets $1.5 billion solar project"},"content":{"rendered":"That&#8217;s 400 MW of solar power in twenty 20 MW PV plants,\njust across the state line in Gadsden County, Florida.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarserver.com\/solar-magazine\/solar-news\/current\/2011\/kw39\/national-solar-power-chooses-gadsden-county-florida-for-400-mw-pv-project.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.solarserver.com\/uploads\/pics\/gadsden_county_in_florida_p.jpg\"><\/a>\nPlus ongoing jobs, expanded education, private sources of investment, and customers for the electricity.\n<p>\nAccording to SolarServer quoting a National Solar press release yesterday,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarserver.com\/solar-magazine\/solar-news\/current\/2011\/kw39\/national-solar-power-chooses-gadsden-county-florida-for-400-mw-pv-project.html\">\nNational Solar Power chooses Gadsden County, Florida for 400 MW PV project<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nThe company estimates that the 400 MW project will create 400 jobs during\nthe five-year construction phase and up to 120 permanent operations jobs.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd that&#8217;s not all.\nAccording to Solar Energy News today,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brighterenergy.org\/26731\/news\/solar\/plan-to-build-1-5bn-solar-farm-in-florida\/\">\nPlan to build $1.5bn solar farm in Florida<\/a>,\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nLinked to the Gadsden project, a partnership National Solar Power is\nestablishing with Tallahassee Community College (TCC) will create a solar\nenergy educational and training center at TCC\u2019s Gadsden County campus.\n<p>\nThe center will feature its own 2 MW utility-scale solar farm.\n<p>\n\u201cNational Solar Power is making a strong commitment to education in our\narea \u2013 not only with the establishment of the solar farm on our campus\nbut also with the jobs that will be created in Gadsden County and the\neconomic development benefits that will flow to help Gadsden County\u2019s\nschools, students and residents,\u201d said TCC President, Dr. Jim Murdaugh.\n<p>\n\u201cIt is projected that by 2060, solar energy will meet half of all\nthe world\u2019s energy needs. When you realize that, it makes sense to\npartner with National Solar Power to provide our students with the kind\nof education and training that will be available at the TCC-Gadsden\nSolar Farm.\u201d\n<\/blockquote>\nWhy did National Solar choose Gadsden County?\n<blockquote>\nCompany CEO James Scrivener said Gadsden was chosen for several reasons,\nincluding &#8220;its great year-round climate, strong community leadership,\nincredibly inviting regional support and the strong potential for future\neconomic growth.&#8221;\n<\/blockquote>\nHm, I didn&#8217;t see anything about\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/09\/18-years-later-in-troup-county.html\">\n&#8220;unified school district&#8221;<\/a>\nor\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/three-things-to-actually-improve-education-john-s-quarterman.html\">\n&#8220;unified platform for industry.&#8221;<\/a>\nNothing about local elected officials claiming\n<a href=\"\/blog\/category\/lcc-solar\">\nit&#8217;s just not time for solar yet because of lack of financing.<\/a>\nNo wasting the community&#8217;s time for years when\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/move-on-find-other-avenues-other-projects-ashley-paulk.html\">\nthere&#8217;s no market for biomass energy.<\/a>\n<p>\nNope, National Solar is moving ahead with private financing, and\n<blockquote>\nNational Solar has an agreement to provide electricity to Progress Energy\n(CPWLP.OB) Florida, which serves parts of central and\nnorth Florida.\n<\/blockquote>\nAll this in conjunction with real local leaders:\n<blockquote>\nScrivener credited Scott and the state&#8217;s economic development team as\nwell as the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce and Tallahassee Community\nCollege with helping persuade National Solar to pick to the Gadsden site.\n<\/blockquote>\nNational Solar also says the other sites that were in the running\nmay still also be chosen.\nNot to repeat myself, but\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/sumter-county-may-go-solar-wheres-lowndes-county.html\">\nSumter County may go solar: where&#8217;s Lowndes County?<\/a>\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"That&#8217;s 400 MW of solar power in twenty 20 MW PV plants, just across the state line in Gadsden County, Florida.
