<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\nBrian Melley, AP, 25 November 2015,\r\n\r\nUtility plans to mask awful odor from uncontrolled gas leak<\/a>,\r\n \r\nLOS ANGELES (AP) — A utility trying to stop a monthlong leak\r\nat a massive natural gas storage facility near a Los Angeles\r\nneighborhood said it planned to use a mist to mask the sickening\r\nstench as work continues — possibly for three more months\r\n— to plug the well.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n \r\nEven the 9-inch pipeline to Berrien County\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\ntook probably half an hour for SONAT to get around to turning off<\/a>.\r\n \r\nSoCalGas officials told county supervisors Tuesday that the\r\nsubstance is safe and would neutralize the rotten-egg smell that has\r\nled to more than 660 complaints by residents to the air board about\r\nnausea, headaches and dizziness.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\nPorter Ranch residents attended the supervisors meeting to criticize\r\nthe company’s delay in owning up to the leak that began Oct. 23 and\r\nsaid they are wary of claims the deodorizing mist is harmless and\r\nfear it could cause unknown chemical reactions.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\n“We’re not your guinea pigs,” said Matt Pakucko, president of a\r\ngroup called Save Porter Ranch.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\nWell, yes they are.\r\nBut these guinea pigs have hired attorneys.\r\nMcCuneWright, LLP, NewsChannel10.com, 24 November 2015,\r\n\r\nClass Action Lawsuit Filed Against Southern California Gas Company on Behalf of Porter Ranch Homeowners Affected by the Gas Leak<\/a>,\r\n \r\nREDLANDS, Calif., Nov. 24, 2015 \/PRNewswire\/ — McCuneWright,\r\nLLP, a Southern California complex litigation law firm, and The Kick\r\nLaw Firm, APC, a Los Angeles based class action law firm, filed a\r\nclass action suit today in Los Angeles County Superior Court on\r\nbehalf of William Gandsey, and all other residents of Porter Ranch,\r\nagainst Southern California Gas Company and its parent company\r\nSempra Energy, resulting from the ongoing and uncontrolled natural\r\ngas leak at Southern California Gas Company’s Aliso Canyon natural\r\ngas storage facility located immediately adjacent to the Porter\r\nRanch community. There are an estimated 30,000 residents of Porter\r\nRanch.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\nThe natural gas leak was first reported to governmental regulatory\r\nauthorities on October 23, 2015. To date, all efforts to correct the\r\nnatural gas leak have failed and the leak continues unabated.\r\nSouthern California Gas has stated that it may take months before\r\nthe leak can be sealed. Since at least October 23, 2015, Plaintiff\r\nand the Porter Ranch community have been, and continue to be,\r\nphysically invaded by gases, chemicals, noxious odors, pollutants,\r\nand contaminants emanating from the natural gas leak at Defendants’\r\nAliso Canyon facility, located at 12801 Tampa Avenue, Los Angeles,\r\nCalifornia. Since the start of the natural gas leak, the Southern\r\nCalifornia Air Quality Management District has logged 499 complaints\r\nfrom residents in the area surrounding the Aliso Canyon facility.\r\nComplaints have included reports of negative health impacts, such as\r\nnausea, dizziness, vomiting, shortness of breath, nose bleeds, and\r\nheadaches.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\nWhile the lawsuit will be seeking damages for those losses,\r\naccording to Taras Kick of The Kick Law Firm, “the most important\r\nthing right now for the homeowners is to know the health\r\nimplications of their exposure to these chemicals.” Richard McCune\r\nof McCuneWright, LLP, states that “The homeowners have received\r\nconflicting information that the exposure is not a health concern,\r\nwhile at the same time the Los Angeles County Department of Public\r\nHealth has recommended that the Southern California Gas Company\r\nprovide free, temporary relocation to some residents. In light of\r\nthe mixed messages, and the known dangers of some of the chemicals\r\nthat reportedly are being released, there needs to be a\r\ncomprehensive release of information to the Porter Ranch homeowners\r\nso that they can make independent decisions regarding their health.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\nApparently it reallys stinks.\r\n89.3KPCC, 25 November 2015,\r\n\r\nPorter Ranch gas leak rotten-egg smell could cost SoCal Gas<\/a>,\r\n \r\nPorter Ranch residents have made nearly 700 complaints to the South\r\nCoast Air Quality Management District over the rotten-egg smell\r\ncoming from the ruptured well in nearby Aliso Canyon.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\nOn Monday, AQMD issued a notice of violation for the nuisance\r\nsmells. It covers complaints filed with the agency going back to\r\nOct. 24, a day after the leak was first detected.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\nRelocation\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\nSoCal Gas executive Gillian Wright told the Board of Supervisors\r\nTuesday during a hearing about the leak that 259 households have\r\nrequested relocation and 67 of those have already been placed. The\r\nutility company has hired four housing companies to help complete\r\nrelocations within 24 hours of a request.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nLast week county public health officials ordered the gas company to\r\nprovide free temporary relocation assistance to any affected\r\nresidents.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\nBack to the VDT AP story:\r\n \r\nSo far, the leak has stumped the gas company, a division of Sempra\r\nEnergy, which has tried unsuccessfully to pour liquid into a leaking\r\nwell that goes a mile and a half underground.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\nSempra Energy donated $2,000 to the 2014 campaign of Nathan Deal for Governor\r\nand $1,000 to the campaign of Lauren W. McDonald Jr. for Public Service Commission,\r\naccording to\r\n\r\nGeorgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission<\/a>.\r\n \r\nOf course, that’s not much compared to the\r\n\r\n$3,700 + $6,300 donated in 2014<\/a> to Nathan Deal for Governor, Inc. by Spectra Energy PAC.\r\nThe same Spectra of Sabal Trail.\r\nWhose PAC also donated to a variety of other Georgia candidates, including\r\nDon Parsons\r\n \r\nAnd many more pipeline and fossil fuel companies\r\n\r\ncontributed to the campaigns of Nathan Deal<\/a> and others.\r\n \r\nShould we wait until something like this happens here?\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\nSarah Favot, Los Angeles Daily News,\r\n24 November 2015,\r\n\r\nLA County supervisors ask governor to intercede in Porter Ranch gas leak<\/a>,\r\n \r\nThe Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday asked the\r\ngovernor to intercede in a dispute over a monthlong gas leak above\r\nPorter Ranch that has caused 78 families to leave their homes.\r\n<\/p>\r\n \r\n“Thirty-one days is too long,” said Supervisor Michael\r\nAntonovich, who had asked Southern California Gas Co. officials to\r\nappear before the board and called the delays “nonsensical and\r\nirresponsible.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\nAnd doesn’t this give you confidence in the fossil fuel industry?\r\n \r\nThe gas company does not know what caused the leak but will conduct\r\nan investigation into the cause after the leak is stopped.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n \r\nGeorgians\r\n\r\nfor months have been asking Gov.
