Nathan Deal, solves a problem for many<br \/>\nlegislators who did not want to renew the 2-year-old fee, widely<br \/>\nknown as the \u201cbed tax,\u201d because they saw it as a tax<br \/>\nincrease.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWithout the fee, hospitals and doctors faced cuts in Medicaid<br \/>\nreimbursement that could exceed 20 percent, a hit that would have<br \/>\nforced many to drastically cut services and cause some small rural<br \/>\nhospitals to shut down.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThe legislation just breathed life into 27 hospitals,\u201d<br \/>\nsaid Jimmy Lewis, the CEO of HomeTown Health, a network of rural<br \/>\nhospitals and providers.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThere&#8217;s more in<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/news\/state-regional-govt-politics\/bed-tax-clears-final-hurdle\/nWDHT\/\"><br \/>\nthe article.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Georgia legislature showed some responsibility for public health Friday, even though it did so through a shell game.
