announces closing of Crystal River nuclear power plant<\/a>,\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nDuke Energy announced early Tuesday it will permanently close the\nCrystal River nuclear plant that has been shut down since late 2009.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/01\/nrc-power-reactor-status-reports-graphed.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee8405cc8970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017ee8405cc8970d-pi.jpg\" \/><\/a>\nThe company said it is reviewing alternatives, including building a\nnew natural gas plant, to replace the power produced by the nuclear\nfacility.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nDuke&#39;s four coal-fired plants will remain in service at the same\nCitrus County complex where the nuclear plant, known as CR3, is\nlocated.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/01\/power-source-growth-rates-like-compound-interest.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" farms\nand solar farms\ninstead, like\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/01\/2-gigawatts-of-wind-power-off-fukushima-plus-solar.html\">\nTEPCO is doing near Fukushima<\/a>?\nThose can be built on time and on budget, use no fuel, and cause no pollution.\nAnd how about\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/01\/rural-aids-poverty-the-cause-solar-power-part-of-the-solution.html\">\nrooftop solar for jobs<\/a> and energy independence?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThere&#39;s more in\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/business\/energy\/duke-energy-announces-closing-of-crystal-river-nuclear-power-plant\/1273794\">\nthe href=\"\/blog\/2011\/10\/calculate-how-much-vogtle-is-costing-you-mandy-hancock.html\">\nGeorgia Power has been charging customers for for years.<\/a>\nFollowed by <a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/01\/hatch-1-nuclear-reactor-down-to-40-power-sunday-why.html\">\nHatch 1<\/a> and Hatch 2, then Vogtle 1 and Vogtle 2.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/01\/san-onofre-and-diablo-canyon-status-graphs-nrc-data.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee8405ce9970d\"
